Hi all,

Collected my beautiful Rosso Pearl Tamora last week - what a different drive after the Chim!

I've noticed that the idle speed on hot start seems to be high (1500 - 1750ish) but settles down quickly after driving off again. Seems fine on a cold start (about 850 - 1000).

Is this 'normal' or should I worry about it?

Thanks,
Neville

1500 seems to be a bit high to me. Mine is around 1000 when hot and about 600 - 700 when cold. Not sure you should be overly worried though as any dealer should be able to adjust it quite quickly. There are plenty on here who would do it themselves although I am not one of them! loser

Hope you are enjoying the new car!

They don't seem to like a hot start and, at least for me, like it even less on V-Power, so I avoid it.

Yours doesn't sound far off:
Cold mine is 900-ish, dropping to 700.
Hot she is a bit higher, though yours sounds like she's higher still.

I wouldn't worry about that, assuming nothing else seems odd.

Edit - bloody apostrophies

Sounds like your throttle cable / linkage could be sticking when hot. A quick check of the mechanism will tell you.

I take it there are no dash warnings, i,e EFI fault?
Could be a Lambda sensor giving dodgy info to the ECU briefly on hot start. The wifes MR2 roadster did this, and the engine light came on, it was a Lambda/O2 sensor.

Hi,

Thanks for the thoughts so far.

No warning lights and nothing else seems iffy - other than this hot start idle speed, the car performs brilliantly. Not had chance to check the throttle linkage for 'stickiness' yet but I'll give it a look when I get minute.

This wouldn't make any difference as the Sp6 engine doesn't have any means of idle control from the ECU.

The only way you'll get elevated idle speed is an air leak past one of the throttles or the mechanism / cable sticking.
