Chameleon Orange At Cheshire TVR

Does anybody know anything about the history of this car, or had a dealings with Cheshire TVR?

I went to see it last week, the chap had 3 very nice T350s but this one was my favourite... It had just over 5,000 on the clock but when fired up, it didn't sound as sweet as the others.

The very nice man (who was trying to sell it to me) told me that this was because the engine was still a bit 'tight'. Is this in accordance with accepted thinking, or was it simply used car salesman BS?

Once the engine has warmed for a few minutes it should quieten down. Did you leave it that long?

5,000 miles shouldn't mean a tight Speed Six. 500 maybe.

Some are a bit rattlier than others, but it might just need a tappet service. Get an indie to check it over for you before buying (I recall there are a few in the area).

I went to look at an 03 T350c about 2 years ago, but chose not to buy as it was a bit steep on price at the time. Top bloke though, who knows his tvr's very well. Admitidly his cars seem to sit for months and months at a time before they sell. I was very impressed with him personally and we spoke on a few occasions. Deffo recommend having the car looked at properly and its probably due a good service.

Left it running for a while but it didn't seem to make much difference. You could tell as soon as it started up that something wasn't quite right (though it wasn't really wrong either). There was quite a noticeable difference when the'04 plate Targa parked next to it was fired up, that one sounded beautiful by comparison. I don't have enough experience of these cars to know whether it was just the tappets or something else.

I will definitely have an expert take a look before I leap. I thought perhaps that Rob Ingleby at findasportscar would be a good choice, has anyone used his services or, have any other recommendations?

Hi. Can't really help re the particular car you're looking at or Cheshire TVR for that matter, but if you need a well respected indie in the Cheshire area to check it over for you, Ian @ TorqueRVT really knows his S6's.

dont rush to conclusions just yet, if the idle speed is set even just a 100 rpm too low then the engine vibrates alot more when cold naturally causing rattles and not sounding too good, (For instance at low idle speeds my exhaust used to catch somewhere underneath and makes a scary metal knocking noise) mine was the same before its service, was ticking over about 700 - 750 cold and it rattled alot when left at tick over, after the service the car idled at a nice 950 rpm and it sounded like a different car.

I've heard a sagaris start up with less than 5000 miles and it sounded rough as anything. When the guy held the revs at 1000rpm it sounded smooth as anything.

Something to think about anyway.

If you PM me I'll give you some examples of his 'service' from myself and a few pther PHers!

Just remember anyone can find a good car and pass themselves off as an expert. Where a true expert earns his money is when he spots the duds.

Just to add to this, I had Rob Ingleby source a Chimaera for me and found him to be excellent - thoroughly professional, nice bloke, dead straight, and the car is fabulous. He spent a good couple of hours on the car checking it over, took me for a test drive in it, steered the negotiations with the vendor, and I would recommend him to anybody. Worth every penny, and the bits he found that needed attention from the vendor actually paid for his services in full.

If I was considering a speed 6 in that area I would definately pay Ian at Torque RVT to look it over. Yes he is my mate but the fact is that he is very good at spotting lemons.
