hi all, i've done a search for checking the engine oil level and found some good advice in the threads
but has anyone confirmed with there main tvr dealer on the best way to check the oil level
when you turn the engine off should you check it within seconds ! "sprinting round to the front of the car"
how long can you leave it before checking 10 secs or 30 secs it would be great to get this right do you screw the cap in or just leave it loose and allow for this

Make sure that the engine is warm, stop engine. Check the oil around 30sec or so after - I don't think it's that critical, so don't bother running. Remove dipstick, clean, replace into the reservoir, screw the cap loosely into the reservoir to get the reading.

Thirty seconds is safer than as quick as possible, although I do mine in a spirited fashion (at least as spritited as I do anything wink).

Try and be consistant.

As above and I recommend getting a set of gardening gloves to save you burning your hand.

It is easier if you run the car.. take the stick out when it is running...turn off the engine and then dip...no time wasted...no burnt hand...no fuss

Somethng about a dry sump but can't remember...

thanks guys
i've done an oil check as soon as the engine has been turned off within 10 secs and its just to the max mark
i then did a check at around 30 secs and it was about 20mm over the max mark which one would be correct this does seem a bit confusing

HELP !!!!!!!

Was told by the factory it should be done with engine running. [but then again they did OVERFILL mine when they serviced it, actually to the brim causing the car to chuck out blue smoke as oil was sucked up the breather. tts]
