Since My sag has been serviced, which happened to coincide with the outside temperature dropping a little, my oil temperature is struggling to reach 60 degrees even after 45 mins of driving, also the temperature bars which are normally settled onto 3 bars after 25-30 mins are struggling to go above 2 bars but mainly hover between 1 and 2, is this purely down to outside temperatures or is it more likely a sensor fault,(its making me very nervous to get the revs up) many thanks in advance.

Mine's always been like that - is that wrong?

All I know is that my car used to settle at approx 71-73 degrees once fully warm and there would be 3 bars illuminated on the temp gauge, which was pretty consistent, just wondering why it has suddenly changed.

What sought of driving are you doing, If its motorway/duel carriage way driving that slight temperature drop in the air will have an effect on the gauge as the OTS is at the front exposed to the air coming through the vents. Otherwise it could be the OTS playing up.

In winter you have to rely more on your hearing to know when its warmed up enough as the engine note changes.

Try going for a drive then stopping for petrol and see if the temp rises.

I wouldn't worry to much.

At this time of year especially, i find it more reliable to use a combination of oil temperature and pressure, i.e. when cold my oil pressure is 60 at idle and revs. The oil pressure at idle goes down gradually as the car warms up and i know that once the oil pressure reaches 20 at idle, the oil is at full temp.
As has been said, if you are travelling along at this time of year and the oil temp. goes down drastically (due to the cold air hitting the sensor), if you pull over it will start to climb again quickly to full temp, but your oil pressure should still be at e.g. 20, i.e. full temp!

God, i've confused myself!! silly
