Right a theoretical question for all.

I am thinking of buying a sag at the mo and a thought has occurred. Now admittedly i have yet to take one for a spin but i was wondering if it would be possible to fit a supercharger (nothing huge simply a minor upgrade circa 30-100bhp). Now the only reason i am thinking of this is if the engine is meant to be unreliable maybe it would pay to have a rebuild before fitting one as the theory seems to be the engine may require a rebuild at some point N/A anyway?

Yes it seems insane and once i take one for a spin i may realise its not necessary at the end of the day its merely a thought and even if I dont feel death near enough then maybe i would give it a try dep on potential cost as it would put it in the same territory as most of the quickest supercars in the world.

Speak to Jason Cleg at Straight 8, he has Shaun's Sagaris which is going to be SC I believe.

Have there actually been any cases of the Sagaris engine needing a re-build???

Only one I know off and that had was in the high 30k miles but that wasn`t 'required' - the owner felt it was a good idea at the time (due to an engine-out service) - That wasn`t a Power rebuild either.

What is an engine - out service?

They took the engine out so they could look at all the insides to see any signs of wear (at nearly 40k on a speed 6 its probably a good idea). They would then replace (with uprated parts) and issues (such as big-end, finger followers, etc.)

I really can't believe it is only one. According to BossCerbera, Mr Blue the press Sagaris (with a 2005 engine) needed a rebuild. He said the cause was one of the usual failings on this engine (see Speed Six forum).

And I wonder what that is. In most cases its the substandard nut behind the wheel. yes And being a press car substantiates the case.

Many have researched the SC route, is one Tuscan with an SC fitted, but haven't heard recently how he's doing, and should be some out and about next year.

If you have deep pockets, the main issues are managing the heat from engine and exhaust once above say 450bhp, and a fully re-engineered engine, lubrication, cooling system, transmission, etc that are vital just as starting point (which on it's own theoretically gets you well above 400bhp/330lbft torque).

Unlike some Jap and US cars, not built with large extra reserves in all the components, as we have supercar performance as standard biggrin

Cooling, now that is an issue. My engine builder is working on the basis of global warming in reverse. The hotter it gets the less heating you need. With me its the faster you go the cooler it gets smile We just haven't allowed for corners yet.

Two spring to mind Jason at str8 6 is currently doing a sag and a tuscan circa 475 bhp, and the 3.6 wilder fury engine has been developed with turbocharging in mind.
I reckon you wont get much change out of 20k

surely if i have engine out service and get all the upgrades done then its merely a matter of cooling which cant be that hard.Radiators are so last century there has to be a better way. Something like an airconditioner for the engine which would achieve much lower cooling temps.

Yes i know i sound like a blithering idiot however its merely the thoughts running through my head put on paper/screen. I realise its not that "simple" but i was thinking the 440 was a 600 bhp supercharged straight 6 was it not so its gotta be do able?

I’m sorry guys but I would think any more than 500bhp would be un drivable.
People out will try and sell you anything for more power- the supercharged idea is ok , but its just a mechanical turbo, nosy and not that reliable + its a bit expensive . If how ever some one could do a real supercharger kit (i.e. Kenny Bell or the likes)that would be cool smooth quite and reliable.

I’m sure we would all like ( more power Captain ), but for example my friend has just fitted his 520 bhp cosy engine in to his works cossy shell its only rear drive.
Now this was interesting, remember it’s a good 200kg more than a TVR Sagaris .
And guess what its un drivable (as in 150MPH wheel spin in 5th.)yikes
So if you really think you need more power, just weigh all the pros & cos.

My first engine was 425bhp by Dreadnought and it was nearly perfect ,could spin the wheels in the dry in 3rd and that was great fun.( unfortunately i broke that one.paperbag
If I was in the market for up grade it would be Doms at TVR Power from what i here , its a 4.2 upgrade just right for the Sag or Tus ) poss 430 440bhp.cloud9

Another wee thing.
If you really want that warp 10 on the odd occasion , have an engine re build strengthened with all the bits done Rods Forged Pistons and run a 6 jet Fogger NOS set-up woohoo
-Extra 60-80 bhp no problem (unless your silly)

Yahoo nos does not interest me in the slightest in this concept however your idea supercharging wise is what i was thinking. A proper supercharged job and nothing huge power wise. Standard power at wheels i believe is around 340 what i would want to achieve would be nearer 400-420 maybe and a decent supercharger setup would be crucial as the power needs to be linear and smooth rather than mental which is why a turbo would never be an option.
