Tamora Rear number plate replacement

Hi folks, Ive had a little difficulty removing the screws holding the rear plate.It seems that the heat shield is drilled with a nut (that the screw rusty)is held by. I cant remove either. do you have to remove the heatshield to fit the new plate? Any suggestions please?

You don't have to remove the heat shield to fit the new plate. If the screws are rusty you may not be able to get a spanner to the bolt behind the shield and get enough purchase on it to undo it.

The heat shield is quite easy to take off. Slacken the 4 bolts that hold the rubber exhaust hanger and then undo the 4 allen bolts that hold the heat shield to the rear diffuser.

Slight tug, and he presto.

May be an idea to spray WD40 on the the welded bolts that hold the shield to the diffuser and leave for a while, these tend to stick and it is easy to round the allen bolt heads when undoing them.

Of course, a TVR Power sports exhaust with two small silencers mkes anything around the back a far easier operation. More more of a reason is required...

It can be done, its a fiddle though,

I un did the screws holding on end of the heat sheild to give it play and alow another 2-4cm's movment.

just drill it out otherwise, it wont be that hard and you cant wreak anything you will see when the new plate is on if you cock it up.

I've replace my plate a few times now and never had a problem taking them off and for the new one I have put a lot of the double sided plate tape as I think it looks better without the screws to hold it on.
However, each of them cant stand the heat, they all seem to peal off in the middle of the plate. Has anyone had this and come up with a simple solution?

I believe that the simple solution most people use is two bolts to hold the numberplate in place..... I also tried the sticky pads as opposed to tape but the heat buildup is always enough to melt the glue.

Pads/tape may work with a TVR Power sports exhaust as the two small silencers are further from the heatshield and there is more airflow behind the shield.

Job sorted. Drilled out the old screws nuts fell off at the back. Then drilled the number plate in different position.then positioned plate against heatshield,using it as a drill jig.Used self tappers went into aluminium heatshield nicely.Cant understand why this wasnt done originally.
