Noise under gater... has anyone had a look under one???

I have sorted the dash squeek but I have a squeek and rattle from under the gater...

I suspect its a rubber bush that is squeeking due to a bolt or nut having loosened off (that would be the rattle) and allowing it to move around when I change gear.

Has anyone had this problem or better still has anyone looked under a gater, if so, how, and what does it look like? Are there nuts holding down a rubber disk and could one nut have broked free?

I had exactly the same thing. Came on fairly quickly. Cured when engine mounts were replaced at the service a few weeks later. I think the slight change in position of teh engine was creating stress in the gear knob wotsits.

Mine's doing this now as well?? rattles like hell under hard acceleration...

That looks excellent. Is it tricky to do, or simply a case of taking it all to bits and wrapping the stick in foam (or whatever it is)?

Thanks for the pics thats a big help. How is the main centre part (the leather cover) held down... how do you get it off without damaging it?

I took it into Austec today and it's exactly as you thought, the gear stick can rotate if twisted with pressure. This shows that the bolt at the bottom has worked loose, and in theory, you could pull the gear stick out if you were trying to be an F1 driver.

I need to get in there and tighten it up, does anyone have any tips or hints as to how it can be done?

Had a noise under my gater, turned out to be a rat making a home for winter, b@stard. Scamp soon had him though.

Thanks alot for that Manual, what manual is it? Is it as simple as it looks or is it going to be one of those... replace everything you take off jobs?

I'm keen to play as I want to run some more audio wires down too.

Where can you get a copy of the manual from - very useful? I had the Steve Heath Chimaera manual and that was incredibly helpful.
