Insurance for younger drivers?

Hi guys,

Owned my T350c for around 2 months, currently insured with Elephant. They have just sent me the renewal and it's quite a bit higher than I expected.

Does anybody know of some insurers to try who will even entertain the idea of insuring a 23 year old on a T350c?

I have called loads of places, gone through all the details for them to tell me they cannot insure me because of the car and my age.

Any recommendations?

Would be interested to know what the renewal price was as i am looking at buying one in the next 12 months....

You could try APlan if you've not called them already. I've always found them to be very good.

Yes, I bought the car when I was already 10 months into a policy, so I just paid them X amount to change the car on the policy.

Have you tried the usual suspects? Sunninghill, A Manning, A Plan or Peart? They all give good prices, esp. A Manning if you're a TVRCC member.

I tried A-plan and A Manning but because of my age they could not quote, said come back when I am 25 I will try the other two tomorrow though, thanks.

That does seem a little steep. Recently Elephant have been pretty good in my experience - they insured my 25yr old brother on a B*xst?r for sensible money. I'm now officially over the hill (30), single, male, Dr, but full NCB, no discretions and garaged and have just insured my new T350 for VERY reasonable money (only £250 more than the Freelander it replaced [on that policy - don't try and imagine how my life works!]. How much excess are you taking on? Elephant would have let me take 1K.

When I was a nipper (23), Tesco were cheapest to insure me on a Griff 5.0. Worth giving them a go?

I insured my T350 with lloyds TSB last July.
I am 23 and pay under £2k.

Try DirectLine, they quoted £700 for me on a Sagaris (30 yrs, 8+ NCB) and was a good £1000 cheaper than anyone else..

Lloyds TSB have been cheapest for me on all of my cars most recently... but i'm 25.


The 'sepcialist' TVR and sports car insurers would not entertain me if I had not driven a supercar for a year... Circular argument but their prerogative I suppose. When I have to renew next year I will give the 'specialist' ones a try again now that I will have their prescious year under me.

£2.5k may not be that far out to be honest for a 23 year old... It is the worst form of discrimination but until something gives we are stuck with it.

I have just done an online quote with Lloyds TSB and it's come out at £1,400 which is much more like it. Will try a few others, but they are easily the cheapest so far.
