Targas ?

Hi,
I bought mine in September last year. I had a Chim 450 and wanted at least some sort of open top TVR. I wanted a Sagaris but the T350T was the best compromise. My roof panels look carbon fibre from the inside. They do have bags to put them in the boot which does protect their paintwork but they do tend to rattle if you don't put anything on them to keep them in place. The previous owner put extra stick on foam between the seal and the inner roof and when put on correctly wind noise is not an issue. Putting them on is a case of push the clips in at the front and tighten up the clips onto the car roof at the back. I have driven the car in the rain and jet washed it without any leaks.
Without the panels on the car is different- windows up the wind seems to go straight over the top, but with the windows down you get more of the feel of an open top.

Paul- would be very interested in the stick on foam solution in your car - pictures please...
No I am not hijacking this thread this is the comment to the original writer I want this stick on foam because windnoise is the only real downside to the targa roof- in my car -2004- it is extremely loud @ legal motorway speeds to becomer a bit less of an issue abroad -i.e. @ 100ish...
The only other chance to not go crazy (it is really that loud) is drop the windows a bit (and listen to that lovely JP exhaust- get one if your car hasn´t one)- but a bit "fresh" this time of year
AFAIK the Traga option was about 1500.- quid when new and targas seem to hold a bit of a premium (probably because they are rare) - IMO a good compromise between open and closed, comfortable long distance touring and better boot space. They don´t leak (at least not at the roof panels )- door seals any one, come with fitted bags and the carbon looks really great from the inside- highly polished finish in mine
I believe later cars (2005 or 2006) have a better fitting mechanism and probably less wind noise..

Hi, It has black foam, door insulation, stuck on the roof panel outside sealing rubber. I have been looking for some better foam/ rubber but havn't been to many car shows lately. I guess it will always make some kind of noise because they do not pull down directly to the roof but I can definately tell when they aren't on properly as they are as you describe. Have yours got the hold down bits at the back?

The panels (at least 2004 onwards) are pure carbon fibre (unlike other tvr model roof panels over the years which weighed a tonne and were grp with a carbon look finish)...and look great from the inside with a polished finish. They literally weigh almost nothing and can be stowed away quite easily in the bags that should be with the car. They have never leaked even in driving rain and wind. It will take a bit of trial and error for you to find the ideal position on the roof to minimise wind noise. At very high speed (note: well over the legal limit) they do make a noise and dropping the window slightly does help. Come the summer though take those panels out and you have wind in the hair motoring..not quite a 100% convertible but almost... and unlike other tvr convertibles you can still use the boot without having to empty it all out when it rains !!

I believe people have done conversions to the newer locking mechanism but I am afraid to drill holes in the beautyful carbon- mine weigh about 400 gramms each panel.
But a foam insert seems to be the solution- interesting that mine makes noise in lower speeds only not in high ones (I assume the high pressure of fast driving lifts them up far enough for the pressure to escape without noise???- hope they don´t say good bye on the (European)motorway one day
