Hi,

I picked up my Sagaris (delivered up the M6 by Racing Green) and have a few questions that hopefully someone can help me on.. First of all I`d like to say Racing Green have been absolutely fantastic in accommodating me (2 months delay in pick up) and sorted a 200 mile delivery with a few days notice..

1. The speedo died 100 miles after collecting it, it started to fluxuating for about 20 minutes between zero, the correct speed and about 226mph (very quickly) - all the other dash information appears correct. Is the sensor at fault or the cable? I felt the fluxuating readings (it kinda worked for a few seconds after a bump) was the result of a cable that was lose..

2. The car had to sit outside in the cold Scotish night (pod read -2c Water and 3c Oil - eek) and when I started her (first time I might add) I couldn`t get it into any gear until the oil reached about 13c and reverse was impossible (without crunching) til about 17c - is this normal?

3. The passenger door doesn`t pop out like the drivers, what do I need to look at to fix this? Is there a small Solenoid?

4. How do I remove the permanent grin from my face? biggrin

Thanks,

James

The first issue will be the speed sensor. Get it sorted asap as you will clock up a lot of mileage otherwise.

2 - Mine is kept in garage, reverse tends to crunch so select 5th before going into reverse.

3 - My passenger door doesn't 'pop' the same as the drivers, not sure why

4 - Impossible

5 - Enjoy !!!

The doors pop on a little ecu - I recall being told that disconnecting from the battery for a while can cause it to reset. Alternatively a dealer can sort quite quickly (Funnily my passenger door has taken to unlatching over bumps so we've got the two ends of the same problem!)

As puckrup has already said; before selecting reverse it is advised (in the manual as well i believe) to select 5th gear before selecting reverse. The reasoning behind this being that it is a synchronised gear, and thus should allow the gears to mesh without making that awful noise, as well as causing some damage to the sychromesh itself. In other words by doing this, your gearbox should last longer smile

Hi James

I'm told it's best to vary which gear you select before reverse, otherwise wear will occur on fifth gear so use 1, 3 or 5 before reverse. Saying that I've heard this on the Cerbera forum so not sure if it applies to the Sagaris.

Speedo problem sounds like the sensor as previously mentioned.

All the best for your new Sagaris

Regards
Simon

My wife thought I was crap at getting revrese for about 7 years, before i found out they all do that... same gear box in other cars does it as well, of course, sierra cosworth, and other i believe.

James, there are a couple of variations on the speed sensor which may be fitted to your car. Your dealer should be able to advise you, and also support you at fairly short notice with a replacment if necessary.

First check is to see if a load of crap has collectd over the head of the sensor - I am sure Graham will be along with a photo shortly!!

If that is not the case changing out is relatively easy, setting up is a bit fiddly due to restricted access.

Re door not opening, does the door make the same noise as the driver side, but just doesn't "pop", or is there no solenoid noise at all?

Hi Guys,

I know about the 5th then into reverse but the car's just hard to get into any gear when started cold (I mean 5c oil and 0c water cold) and I was wondering if thats just 'normal'

I had my local servicer look at the car and he recons the door mechanism is fine, its just the door hasn`t enough outwards force from the rubber seal.

Thanks for all the replies,

James

Hi,

You could try a small piece of adhesive rubber-foam strip on the tail end of the door, inside, near the top where it comes into contact with the body shell. You may even see a small circular rubber pad there already. This may give enough pressure to improve door pop!

I had trouble with the doors. The ECU is in the drivers foot well, don't attempt to enter head first without a mate being present cos you may get stuck like me, behind the carpet down by the go faster pedal. I noticed that the door had dropped on mine. Check the strike plate for signs of rubbing. The adjustment is scary but easy. There are simply two pillow blocks on, from memory, 8mm cap sockets so a hex key on ratchet with short extension needed. Don't try it alone as you will need a mate to lift/hold the door as you fumble and drop the hex key. These are again in the foot wells so peel of the carpet if you need to. Are the doors swinging ok? Nice n free? If so ignore all the above.

Jim,
sounds to me like you have bought a car that has not been checked over correctly pre delivery. Speed sensor is a fiddle, but probably wants replacing/ adjusting. The door popping open often needs 11mm silicone tube inserting into the outer section of the door seal through the air hole. This will correct the problem. The gear st - read manual, select fifth then reverse every time. The problem with the gear selection is probably the slave cylinder dried out as its been stood so long and wants rebuilding.
This is dissapointing as I know its your first TVR.
Speak to Chas and get it sorted at Greg and Dave connelly Ballygowan under warranty. PS I hope you got a full year warranty at RG prices!
I hope you get it sorted quickly as its this kind of service that puts people off TVR. I am sure Racing Green being an honourable dealer will get it sorted for you. But you seem to have gone in without talking to the TVR club guys in NI? We have loads of knowledge, the best contacts and will help you whenever you need.
