Front discs

Just received two new front discs from Power. Quick question though, they are a black/graphite colour. Is this a film that needs taking off the faces - in addition to usual cleaning - prior to use? Or, is just the finish that will wear off in time?

Almost immediately. Its just for storage protection

Thanks. By 'almost immediately' I take it you mean the film doesn't need removing beforehand and will come off as soon as the brakes start being used?

Incidently, Tuscan S discs are the size of steering wheels! It takes two hands to lift 'em. Impressive.

Do you have the right adapters to fit? You may be lucky if you have some TVR Power supplied, you may not and may need to do a fair bit of cutting and welding to adapter the adapters. Hope its straightforward (mine weren't).

Are you upgrading from standard size discs to Tuscan S then? Can I ask how much the discs and brackets were?

Yes, I am, on the understanding they are (although see above) a straight swap for std - albeit with a spacer and they were £50 cheaper than std for an axle set - £105 from Power vs £130 (both inc)from Racing Green. Power are actually asking £140 + vat for the new batch of std discs. Also discovered you can get Sierra rear pads for under £20 rather than something that says or is from 'TVR' for £60.

Topcats fitted mine while they were doing the diff. Took a fair bit of bashing and welding. I had 2 types from Power - neither fitted. You might have no probs. If you do, you'll need to adapt the ones you have (or get a garage to do it).

Been on to Power and it does seem at best I have a 50/50 chance. They do say if I have no joy with either of the 2 spacers I have they will find/make more options. If it gets that tricky I think I'll revert to std discs, as braking is hardly a weak point on a T350 is it. Thanks for your heads-up anyway.

I found the larger discs give a small, but noticable improvement in stopping power.

Trefor, you were right. Neither set of spacers worked.

In order to help others considering this upgrade, you need the shorter of the two types that Power send out (bolt holes 130mm c-to-c) the spacer needs to be 8.5mm thick. The longer, thinner ones (6mm) foul the disc and the shorter ones (15mm as supplied)back the caliper out too far with the result you lose ca. 10mm of useful pad.

I've had a word with Power today and they are going to try machining down the short spacers. If they can I should be ok. also planning to upgrade the bolts to M10 high tensile (12.9) cap-heads, 80-85mm long with 40-50mm shank.
