i've posted a thread on the chim section ! and wondered if anyone had a view on going back to a chim because of the speed 6 issue
post here or best on the chim section to get some open views from all sides

If you can find a good Chim, then do it if that's what you want to do. Spend the spare cash on improvements and you should have a decent car, Although you will have one of the most common TVR's out there, but saying that spares are cheaper and easier to come by. If I was to go backwards I would get a pre-cat griff and use the spare cash to create a superb looking/handling classic.

PS, What issues are there?
All I can say about mine and other S6 is "What FKING great cars they are!" and everyone who has had the balls to stop listening to doom and gloom and been adventurous enough to not follow the rest of the bleeting sheep and bought one .

Buy a chim and keep the Tam too.

What a fantastic piece of advice!

Our Tam is going to Heath Briggs/Paul Forrest (X-Works Services) for its 5 year service and MOT soon - we've had no issues with the S6 and its sound with the TVR Power super sports exhausts is just great. So, much as I like the V8, the S6 treated properly has proved in our case to be a good decision.

julian nice to hear that your car is fine with no major problems ! its great to hear good news, how old is your tam and how many miles on the clock ?
looking at what chim owners are saying that they spend money on upgrades and repair bills it seems to balance out on costs perhaps a little more expensive for the s 6 owner but worth it if you want a newer model tvr.
i'll keep going with mine and what will be will be !
i do love the tam everyday you drive it it puts a smile on your face

The Tam is 5 years old as it's in for its 5 year service ! Registered April 2003, mileage about 21k. I must admit that I have the valve clearances checked every year (only really required every 12k, which for me is 2 years) to keep the engine as sweet as possible - Paul and Heath really know their stuff so I'm happy to pay that little bit extra every 2 years.

julian , when you have the valves checked whats the warning signs that your mechanic will look out for if work needs to be done, i've heard of a top end rebuild and a full rebuild , do you know the cost of a top end rebuild.
and i can see that your car ia 5 years old now lol !

I asked Paul explicitly on Friday whether when he adjusts the valve clearances he can check the finger followers for wear (the key problem area as I understand it). Paul said he can check them and that they were fine.

As far as the costs are concerned, I 've always understood that if there was a problem, then the rebuild cost would be around £5k (see TVR Power website for prices) - TBH, I'm not sure how much of the bottom end is rebuilt for this price (if at all), but Power's website specifies all the parts replaced and so you can tell from this. I just can't remember the list!

thanks for that julian , interested to see that you have the sports exhaust fitted, is it that much better from a noise point of view ! what sort of cost is it to buy and have fitted ! i have seen a price of £320 + vat to buy only

The sports exhaust makes a considerable difference. Many people at the TVRCC comment on the noise, and many locals when touring France now point to their ears and then give the thumbs up! TBH, I had always wanted a V8 because of the noise and so had always been slightly disappointed with the standard S6, but not now.

Cost was around £375 or so, but call Dom at Power for a quote for supply/fit - the Power website provides the cost from memory.

You just have to do it!

I've got a JP exhaust (from ACT) on the T350 and the sound is superb. Have a go at fitting the exhaust yourself, it's not at all difficult.
