2nd ecu in 5 months

On saturday I popped over to Leicester on my return i was going to pop into PPC in melton mowbray for their open day, however I never got there....
My tam lost power and ground to a halt at the side of the road with a strong electricl burning smell coming from the drivers footwell, ahhhhh I recognised this smell from an earlier problem when my ECU failed, not again......

Does anyone know why the ECU fails as i've only done about 500 miles since it was last replaced, i'm starting to think that their must be another electrical fault on my tam which under certain circumstances is causing the ECU to blow, any advice would be welcome.

By the way got home went to cook a bacon sandwich with my george forman and guess what that blew up too .... not a good day.

It's not good at just over £1000 from racing green tvr for new and about £750 exchange item, my ECU's just gone to to see if it can be repaired for less hopefully it will be.

Got some good info from the servive department at racing green, the possible cause of the failure could be a faulty ignition coil and they have advised that this be changed as a matter of course.

For now the Tams off the road just as the summer starts.

Check ebay item number 200207684 it's already sold but i seem to remember topdavid had another for sale, may be worth an email to him.

He can also program the chip to relate to your vehicle.

Call MBE systems direct I spoke with a guy who was very helpful (can't remember his name) back then his hands were tied by contracts he had with TVR but presumabley these are now gone, he may be able to take it off your hands and run some tests to see what has blown and potentially why... I was quoted £600 (from memory so could be wrong) at the time for a new one so £1000 sounds a bit strong...

You could try dealing with Cath Mason (info in this thread http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0... ) who might be able to fix the ECU, that way you wont be paying for a third party to get involved and it should be cheaper.

Are you able to take some pics of the ECU board? Id be interested (as an electronics engineer) to see whats blown and how easy it would be to fix.
