£2k to spend. What shall I do?

Decided to spend some money on the motor as i'm looking to move house in the summer and if I didn't do anything now, I'll struggle to do anything for the next few years. The car as it is is completely standard.
Initial thoughts are dampers/shocks. Did think about changing the exhaust but as I'm planning to drive down to the Italian lakes in the summer, not to sure if the good lady will appreciate anymore noise!!
On a more sensible note has anyone done anything to help the cooling. It does like to get hot and the fan doesn't kick in till around 98C. I have upgraded the speakers in the car but the head unit is the original Pionner. Does it make a difference to the quality of the sound by the quality of the head unit?
And finally, like many others my glovebox lid doesn't fit properly. Any ideas of where to get a replacement?

Change the fan switch in the rad - that will get the first one kicking in about 91degC and the 2nd one kicking in about 96degC. From memory, cost is about £40 so you'll have plenty of cash left over.Lensey said:

I went to lake Garda last year and evan though it was good it was a bit too commercialized and we are off to lake Orta this year as it is supposed to be that much more scenic.
Would be good to see another Tam over there! Can't wait either!

I'm afraid that when it comes to getting my hands dirty I'm not very knowledgeable. In layman's terms how does changing the diff make a difference to performance.N

Basically, the car will be revving higher at any speed in any gear as this is a final drive change. The Speed Six produces more power with more revs (unlike say a turbocharged engine). So you're more 'in the zone' more of the time.

I have done these mod’s (got a Sparco wheel though). I can tell you that the 3.71 diff is the best thing you will do to the car, acceleration in any gear is now savage!! (my car was doing 82mph @ 3k rpm with new diff it now does 77mph @ 3k rpm)about 2k
The Nitrons & a good Geo make a big difference as well, the car now handles poor quality roads much better!

Thank you for all this. I'm going to look into the Nitrons as driving to Italy and Le Mans this year, better handling and ride quality is a no brainer!
As for changing the diff, I'm guessing from the figures that have been quoted the mph suffers? Not that I'm been tight, but as I'll be doing over 3500miles in June/July I think I'll wait till the winter before I consider that!!!
Hopefully some of you will be at Chatsworth so I can get a clearer picture of what mods have been done.

My theoretical top speed before changing to a 3.91 diff was 196mph - which the car would never achieve without another 100hp. If you mean't MPG and not MPH then yes it drops by 5% ish depending on which diff ratio you choose (3.73 or 3.91). Since my car previously did 22-24mpg on average, 26-28 on a run then 5% is not a big price to pay.
