T350 - Oil Filler Cap Problem
Discussion
Just been out for a drive in the T350, so on my return thought I would have a check on the oil as the car was nice and warm.
On removing the oil filler cap I found that the dipstick part has come away from the filler cap and it was only just being held on. As this is the first time that I have checked the oil, I was not sure if this is how it should be, but I am assuming that the dipstick should be securely fixed to the filler cap.
It looks like they were originally bonded together with some kind of glue, does anybody know what I can use to repair this, or is it something that I will have to get done by a TVR specialist.

Yep, had the same thing on the Sag. As long as you have non heat sensitive hands it actually makes checking the oil quicker, no need to screw the cap on and off to take the reading.
On this point I was never quite clear whether you are supposed to check the level by just dipping, or by dipping and screwing - if you get my drift
What I mean to say is that when you screw the cap in and then remove again you obviously get a slightly different read as the stick will go deeper into the oil. I'm sure there must be an expert out there who knows.

Just wondering if anyone had compared a cold reading with the official method and seen what the difference is?
= unreliable reading. With a dry-sump tank, when you turn off, some oil slowly returns to the sump pan under the engine so you'd get an inaccurate level as it would vary with time/engine heat etc.

Have been told to fix the dipstick back onto the oil filler cap using an adhesive such as Araldite.
I belived that Araldite was heat resistant up to 65 degrees C.
So would this be the right stuff to use. I would have thought that it would get hotter than that in the oil tank.
Does anybody know what these were originally fixed with.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
