Water temp on my Tam

My fans have always seemed to kick in around 94 and 98ish. I know this is not out of the norm for the car but I'm thinking ahead for the trip around Europe this summer and would like them to cut in earlier(around late 80's).
Has anyone achieved this on on 02 Tam?
Any advise very appreciated!

I would get the additional header tank fitted if you can. Its rare mine gets to such head heights and its a lovely piece of mind! I know this is not what you want to hear when you just collected the car from a service but its worth the money!
Ditto. The temperatures drop by several degrees with the new header tank.Julian

The fans do kick in at the same temperature, but only kick in when you've been stationary or moving slowly for a while. During normal driving the temperature is noticably lower and the fans never need to kick in. Not sure what real benefits you would get with the fan kicking in earlier - I've never had any coolant problems, even with the old system (including stuck in a traffic jam for a long time in Monaco with temperatures in the high 30s).Julian

Yes they do, but I believe the cooling system is more efficient, therefore keeping the temperature down, therefore less requirement on the fans. I'm sure someone with more knowledge will be along shortly to confirm or otherwise.Ooooo a new chip - that sounds expensive.
I don't know for sure but I would have thought that, as the ECU switches the fans on at a set temperature, the value of that setting could be adjusted after connecting the ECU to the diagnostic software wizardy thing that they plug it into.
Unless TVR decided to make it a 'static variable' as the say.

I do see your point about the cooling system being more efficient with the new header tank and I will look into/get this if it isn't too pricey. Does anyone know how much it is fitted?
I've never had a problem with over heating, I guess its just a piece of mind thing that I would like the temps to stay in the 80's/early 90's. When I went around to Europe last year, I had my Tam and a mate had his boxster s(sorry for swearing on hear) and his fans were on in the 80's which was just so much more reassuring.

Couple of years ago whilst on the fb5k stuck in traffic on our way to the lambo factory we hit 38c air temp, around 50c in the car and the water temp never went above 92 thanks to the header tank and the fans, for me it did what it said on the tin. As I have a red rose TVR fitted post delivery as a request because for the first 3 weeks the fans were on all the time.

My second one started just below 100c which it got to fairly quickly after the first one started at 95ish.Has anyone achieved this on on 02 Tam?

It never gave me much confidence on a hot day.
It probably didn't help that the radiator failed fairly soon after I got the car.

Just had an Alloy radiator fitted this morning at Dulfords. I monitored the temperature on the way down with the old radiator, and monitored it on the way back with the alloy one and it definately runs 10degC cooler than before with the new alloy radiator
