Has Anyone Replaced Engine Mounts Themselves?

The question is pretty much in the title. One of mine has gone on the Tamora and I would like to have a shot at replacing it myself, does anyone have any experience of this?

yep its a pain in the ass of a job, im sure if you do a quick search you will find a rough guide of what to do as iv posted previously about it.

Yep also done this and it is a pain in the ass, you will need 2 jacks, one to support the engine and one to support the car. Nearside I found the worst because there is little room to work. Just getting the heat shield out of the way was a nightmare. Then I found I had to remove the engine bracket aswell so I could get the mount out and new one in, engine bracket mounting bolts are not very accessible on your back in the drive! Offside was a bit easier as there is a lot more room. Good Luck

Cheers for the responses guys, I did do a search on "Engine mount" but didn't find any "how to" guides.

After a trip to Racing Green to pick up the mount and them showing me where they are on the underside of a T350 I have decided it would be £120 well spent letting them do it.

I am happy to have a shot at most things but it looked difficult enough with it up on a ramp, let alone laying underneath it with it up on axle stands.

£120 will be the best £120 you spend to get those mounts changed!!! I changed mine last month….with out a doubt the hardest, awkward, tricky job I have ever had to do on a car!!!

I must be so tight or skint...I'd do it again even though I still have the scars. What I did do is add extra heat sheilding to the bracket on the block on the exhaust side. The mounts are very small and from what I gather don't last so long either. The trick is getting the lump up high enough and inclined at as much of an angle as possible. Inlet side off and as much side ways as you dare, then exhaust side off and on and then inlet side back on. Easier with a bit of lifting tackle instead of a jack only.

My engine mounts keep going! I will soon be on my 3rd set in just over 10k miles... that can't be right! Is it a problem with them getting too hot with the engine?

On the button there. My exhaust side mount had melted. Hence I wrapped it in heat pad/reflective mat. I tied stainless lock wire round it which was well tricky as my fingers are often referred to as pork sausages....not nice is it. The Block bracket seems to carry all the heat into the mount. As a matter of course I am changing the O2 sensors. I will report back in 10K!
