Hi,

I'm taking the Tam down to Santa pod for my first run ever. Has anyone been on one of these 'Run what you brung' days?

What can you expect and is it fun? Also will I see any TVRs down there tomorrow?

Thanks,

Stu

Used to go down a few years back when I had the hot hatches.

Guessing with the weather it will booming this weekend. There's usually a good mix of cars, mainly tend to be hot hatches and jap stuff on rwyb days. When the queue is large people turn off their cars and push them down the queue rather than killing the battery.

Have fun and don't ride the clutch lol! I seem to recall a picture on here somewhere of somebody spinning a T350 at Santa Pod haha, too much loud pedal then!

Looking on the TVR gossip section there is an event at North Weald that some TVRs are attending on Sunday.
Can't go as I need my valves/tappets adjusting after my 1000 mile running-in period after the re-build.

That would be me then - well my car and my mate driving it (we're still talking) !. My advice is don't do the Pod or at least be careful if you haven't got track day tyres on the car. I ran with standard road tyres and just couldn't get enough grip, the result being on one run the back end when completely. I would definately have another go at the Pod, but only with the right tyres on the car.

Don't do too many runs either, or at least pace yourself with long gaps between runs. Not just for the sake of your tyres and clutch, but also because the engine doesn't like it.

Thanks guys thats all good stuff.

I'm planning to take it easy and just race the guy next to me (instead of racing my own times)

That way I can still have fun but not push the car on every run. I've only got road Toyo's and I dont plan to replace them any time soon.

Is the clutch a big issue? I do worry about that.

I aim to have a go at the 'Pod later this year too, have fun!

My standard AP clutch has been fine for several seasons' standing starts in sprinting, and 24k road miles, but nevertheless the pressure plate fingers are often a weak point it seems. Good news is those parts suffer much more stress from use in traffic than for standing starts (and the release bearing etc doesn't do well in the heat in traffic, with the cats nearby). The actual wearing surface of the clutch is as good as any.

To improve grip on that slippery surface, lower the rear tyre pressures, a lotwink

Yes I have been told about letting some air out.... I would never have thought of that. I'm tagging along with a guy who competes up there in the jap car league. He has the european record at 8.2 secs from a 1300bhp supra with wheelie bars and a parachute! so I wont be walking round like billy big bolloc*s thinking I'm really fast. Shame.
