Anthother Tam: won't start

I know this has been covered before, but I need some additional guidence as I am unfamilar with car electrics.

My battery had gone completely flat, to the point that not even the alarm could be turned on / off. I've recharged the battery (trickle charge) and now, I have what appears to be an imoboliser problem. Key turn - start up sequence is shown on the dash and then nothing... when I put the impobiliser in its socket the light stays red (no blinking).

The advice on a similar thread was: find the 100amp fuse under the carpet (passenger side), disconnect, wait a few minutes - reconnect and try to start.

I can take out the carpet, and looking straight forward can see lots of wires, and gaffa tape and some plastic boxes. I'm no electrician: what does the 100amp fuse look like? I can see a big red cable with a grey box in the middle of it... is this it?

Yep - THICK red cable with an in-line plastic box that has bolts onside with the cable secures inside at either end.

From what i understand the battery voltage has to be above 12.4 volts if below that the car won't start. with my tam the symptoms apear the same as what you've described I too charged my battery thinking it would be ok but it looks like it wasn't holding a full charge. I managed to borrow a battery and used this to jump my tam and it started. I have now replaced the battery with a new one and the tams back on the road.

Thanks. I'll replug in the trickle charger tonight and make sure she is at full charge.

As I am unfamilar with electrics I'm getting the RAC round tomorrow morning, with my helpful dealer on the phone to help advise. Hopefuly I'll be back on the road soon.

Sounds identical to what happened with my t350 2 weeks ago.

First it would just die on me, couldn't open doors anything, then I could turn on ignition but it wouldn't start. AA came out put the battery on booster, started first time, took booster off, switched car off and tried starting again wouldn't start. Booster again, started first time.

Battery was loosing charge, had enough to turn ignition on but not to start. And before, when it was running, and dying on me whilst driving (scary) it was this and loose battery connections.

I have now replaced the battery and everything seems fine, car is in for a service now so touch wood, everything will be back to normal..

I would replace the battery. Has it still got the original TVR battery, how old is the car?

Disconnected battery (fully charged from trickle charger), waited a few minutes, reconected and all was fine. I am having the battery tested, just to make sure.
