Racing green have just put up a grey 02 tamora for £21.5k which was recently for sale privately for £16.5k.Talk about an easy profit if they get that price for it!I no dealers need to make a profit but i bet the guy only got £15k off them for it.

They have to make a living - I guess (depending on age, condition, model) a third is 'putting the car right/presenting', a third is warranty and sorting out future glitches/goodwill and a third is profit.

You pays your money....

If you wanted it then you should have offered before they did. Everyones entitled to make a living - but prior to biting my head off I do agree they are steep on prices. However what its up for and what it goes for are different again.
There are are few dealers I would buy from - but none begin with R - and before they bite my head off thats because I have had good experience elsewhere and once that happens I tend to stay there. Nuff said!

From my experience, when you buy from there you pay the price because they are quite simply one of the best at what they do. Its a bit like buying a Ferrari from Maranello in Egham... why go anywhere else?

I just read another post about a buyer trecking around the countryside to look at private/non-dealer cars only to find his time wasted and feeling disappointed. If you want a bargain there are potentially a lot of wasted journeys to see sub-standard cars. TVR dealers (should) offer a more pleasurable buying experience - roll up at a nice showroom to be greeted by a knowledgable salesperson, cars well presented, p/ex & finance facilities, warranty for piece of mind (more important on TVR than most cars) etc.

In short, its the buyers decision which route he goes down as there are pro's and con's with both. Bear in mind, however, that if a car is £21k in a dealer he will probably take £19k with no p/ex if he has had it for a couple of months. I don't believe for one minute that TVR dealers are raking in easy money on sales. I reckon it is a tough game that needs a sharp mind to keep a business healthy!

I imagine the car is on SOR in which case the the owner is still the owner... but as it is still advertised on autotrader for £16,500 with the owners mobile number clearly shown then why go through the dealer?

I expect (some) people would buy from a dealer at a higher price for a TVR as they can get some kind of warranty that a private sale doesn't have. There may also be a finance deal available.

Especially with a TVR, people are buying peace of mind when they pay more from a dealer, there are probably lots of people who would like a TVR but have concerns about reliability they simply feel happier if a dealer sells them the car.
