T350 sqealing noise when clutch pedal released

Howdy,

The other day I noticed there was a strange high pitched squealing noise coming from where the engine lives in my T350. Basically the noise appears whenever i take my foot of the clutch pedal...it sound a bit like when an old cars goes past you and you think maybe the owner needs to replace a belt somewhere....any ideas what this sound might be? I drove off slowly in 1st gear and tried listening for the squealing sound...i could hear it just about audible over the engine roar...so whatever it is that is going wrong is present while i'm driving too.

New Clutch time;

It's likely be the clutch thrust bearing, catch it before it does more damage

Ouch, that sounds painful. Thanks very much for your reply..i've got a full wear & tear warranty but there's a possibility that the garage can't book it in until July...which is a major bummer as just took a month off to drive around in the sunshine!

Is it a big job to change the thrust bearing and will replacing that lesson the likelihood that of needing to replace the clutch? Also, should I refrain from driving around? (i'm starting to cry)

It's a reasonably big job - the engine and gearbox have to be separated to get at it. If the clutch itself is reasonably worn it is worth replacing it too - cheaper in the long run.

The raceproved items seem very good. I have a Clever Trevor release bearing / slave cylinder which made the clutch a LOT smoother, they seem to last a lot longer too.

I have exactly the same squealing noise. Checked with a bunch of places, main dealer and independent. They all told me the same thing, it will be the clutch bearing, but not to worry as they've never seen one go. Main dealer told me they can cure it with a bit of oil but it's not worth it since it's hard to do without dropping oil onto the clutch plates. They will do it if you want, if the noise is annoying you that much.

Now, that said, I'm always open to hear a different story on this so if you are told differently please post and let me know! My clutch seems fine, biting point is good, no slip.

Try another garage. Lots of TVR-like places should be able to do it.

Unless it is very noisy it shouldn't stop the car working. I've driven cars 10,000's miles with noisy thrust bearings. Squealing doesn't sound good though, they usually rattle on the shaft or something similar.
