Battery wheelarch cover & coolant level

Hi,
1) Is the battery supposed to be exposed behind the N/S front wheel for all the road debris to spray up it, or should there be a removable wheelarch cover in place to protect the battery & cables? Mine is exposed. I would have thought it should be better protected.
2) Concerning the coolant level, in the handbook it states - "There should be approx. 10mm of fluid visible within the filler neck". I have read this 100 times and cannot understand (maybe I'm just thick!). Does it mean the level needs filling up to within 10mm of the top? Not much room for expansion? I don't know. It just does not make sense.

Yes, on the Tamora there is a cover and suspect there should be a cover on the T350!
Coolant - I make sure mine is just lower than the pipe that comes off it (using a wooden rod can help with working out the depth), any higher and when very hot it end up spitting it out of the cap making the engine bay pink. You may or may not have the extra expansion tank depending on the year of the car or if any of the previous owners have had it retro-fitted.

Firstly, the battery should not be visible through the wheel-arch. My T350 has a wheel-arch cover to prevent the battery and the associated electrics getting covered in road debris.
Secondly, my car has the modified cooling system with the additional expansion tank. It is a bit temperamental when it comes to coolant level! Originally, I tried to keep it topped up to the level recommended in the owners manual, but quickly discovered that it will find it's own level by pushing out any excess coolant! As a result, I check the coolant every time I use the car and just ensure that the expansion tank has some coolant in it, but not too much! Hope this helps.

Thanks guys, you both really helped. Now I know I have a 'battery shield' missing, things make a lot more sense. It will be interesting to see if that part is available.
I'll keep my eye on the coolant level, keeping it about level with the 'T' junction pipe, making sure not to overfill!
