Battery and Holidays..

Hi,

I drive my Sagaris quite often (every other day and most weekends) and have left it for about a week with no noticable difference in starting her (Battery voltage alreadys reads ~12.6v and spins up the same)

Would I need to get a charger to handle a 2 weeks break in the sun or will it start? (Car is 3 years old, no idea if a battery change has occured..)

I don`t trust anyone (including my Dad ) to start/idle her correctly during the middle of my holidays.

If you're concerned that the battery maybe 3 years old, get a trickle charger (optimate or similar).

Starting any performance engine and letting it idle to charge the battery is bad news.

Had a similar problem with my T350, in that, I could quite easily leave the car for a week and it would start without any difficulty. The first time it was left for a fortnight, it refused to start!
As a result, I bought an Accumate and always use it when the car is garaged and (touch wood) it has always started. Probably, one of the best TVR related buys I've made, after the car of course!!!

I agree entirely. Its an easy, cheap solution and one of the vey early investments I made, too.

Hi,

Just one final question, if I get an OptiMate 3 SP Charger/Optimise can I use a the cigarette lighter adaptor (OptiMate/AccuMate Accessory Plug Lead) without worry about the internals (i.e. cables from cigarette lighter to battery melting..)

I think thats better than playing with the plug under the car

No problem in using the cig socket,

but avoid waggling the socket about as its very close to the body and is known to fuse out.

Fitted my accumate charge wiring through the passenger footwell 80amp fuse
