Speaker systems and ICE. Door speakers and front tweaters??

Now, I know better than most, that one of the main features of a TVR is the wonderful noise belting out the back... and thats exactly why I went for a 'soft' top.

However, I use my car a lot, and sometimes on a long trip I just want good sound from the radio/cd/ipod. I'm sure this has been covered time and time again but...

Does anyone have (or heard) one of these systems from MB Quart??? I dont really have the £700 being asked to fit it so I think that I will have to put that idea on hold sadly (unless there are beaming responses). I'm currently running two three way 6x9's off an alpine unit. I ideally want a fairly cheap way to get some very good tweaters fited up the front, then I will have all the mid and bass coming from a new set up in the rear. Its not ideal for the front faceing ear... but I think it will look nice, sound pretty dam good and not cost an arm and a leg.

any thoughts or feedback most welcome

I have the upgraded MB Quart Coax and MB Quart Door Install

This was fitted before I got the car so cannot compare with original

I can confirm that it sounds great only bettered by the soundtrack from the exhaust

Hi,

Try having a word with Carl Baker (Car & Bike Installations Ltd) - he is an absolute wizard at car sound installations and alarm systems. He knows TVRs inside out, he's a musician (so is passionate about sounds) and all round good bloke. I'm sure he'll be happy to talk to you about what works and you can be sure of great advice. Before I traded up to the Tam he fitted a really good system to my old Chimaera.

Get some components up front and amp them up.. Will sound alot better. I fitted a ipod head unit to my T350 last weekend, its really simple. Wouldnt even think of paying someone to do it

Has anybody fitted front speakers themselves? I want to give it a go, but conscious that if I screw the door cards up how would I get hold of new ones?!

I would look like some sound up front, not looking for amazing quality so not really interested in paying £700 for the privilege! Somebody must of done it?

Yes I had a long chat with Carl Baker... he is definatly the man to go to and he has a keen ear as I do which is good to know. I just cant afford to spend £700 for the whole set. Carl thinks (and I agree) that to do a part install is a bit of a waste of money... i.e just the front doors. I think that untill I can get the cash I just need to fit front tweaters of the highest quality. If I have some high end at the front it will make the world of difference.

Hi Justin, what did you fit up front and did you fit it yourself? How do you get behind the dash??

Just noticed you have a Tamora?! Are they different inside to a T350?

I think they are almost exactly the same?? So how the dickens is it done? I've got a decent alpine unit and 6x9s but I have no mounts or wires for front speakers.

I have not seen them mounted there before? Yes I'm ok with most mods but I dont want to cut holes in the doors... where can these dam tweaters go?!

Was it really??? so how do you get the trim off and how did you find out that speakers wires were in the door?

I would be tempted to mount tweaters myself if the wires were already there.

I bet... thats all I need, I wouldnt put such a large speaker there as I will have that in the rear... just to have some little tweaters there would be the biz!

So how did you know the wires were there before you started?

After undoing the top two bolts under the rubber 'window edges' how do you get the trim off? Is it easy?

I too am looking at fitting door speakers in the front of my Tam.
Are there any depth issues I need to know about - i.e. after I have cut a nice big hole in my door card, are there places I could mount where a speaker fouls the window / window mechanism?
