noise, smell, lack of drive...

Just driving gentley along in a 30 yesterday, no beans at all, start to notice a squealing noise, getting louder, louder than noise of the exhaust/engine, metal on metal type noise, bad burning smell, stop and try to put it in reverse but nothing, almost impossible to get it into gear, pedal went heavy then light and now it has no feel, called a couple of garages, suspect pressure plate broken fingers, does this sound about right to you lot?

Its only done 8k miles and is just 10 months old. should i argue for warranty being less than 12 months old?

Is there any requirement for a tvr garage to fit the new one (at least a 400 mile round trip for me) or should they allow me a new 12 month warranty if i got a specialist up in Aberdeen to fit it and save me a whole lot of hassle?

Graham,
It sounds like the peolpe you have spoken with have diagnosis correct. I would want a specilaist to fit the clutch, or at least someone that has experinece with multi-plate clutches.

Yep this happened to me during London Thunder. Clutch went. Managed to get the Tiv home though, but had to get it relayed from home to David Hendry for them to fit a new clutch.

Also coming out of london not being able to engage gear properly I got caught up in an horrendus traffic Jam because the M4 was shut due to an accident. Then I started to smell burning in the Tiv, but the smell went away after a time.

I know its a bit late in the day Graham but when I had my clutch fitted by Mr Beardy he told me to adjust the clutch pedal stop so its as far out as possible. This meant a new longer bolt. The reason for this is you dont stretch the fingers by over dipping the clutch pedal. Mine is set so the pedal only travels just under 50%. As a bonus it also makes gear changing slightly quicker and smoother.
