I've been reading some of the threads on engine reliability in the Speed6 forum with interest.

Rather than get into the usual debate about whether Speed6 engines are rubbish or not, I just wondered what the alternatives would be should one want to swap a Speed6 engine for something else.

This thread does not mean I think Speed6 engines are rubbish, I am just curious. So let avoid the usual and stick to the topic!

So, to sum up:

What would go into a Sagaris, Tamora or T350 engine bay with reasonable necessary modification the rest of the car?

Would be sweet if we could get an M3 V6 or V8 in there!

M3 has a straight six. Would probably fit.

There is a BMW indie in Marlow with a Cerbera sitting outside a few months ago - they were fitting an M3 engine.

If thats the racing ones I think most of those are tuscan chassis (ex tuscan challenge/ajp8) with a sag body.

Had heard about the M3 straight 6 getting put in a cerb but not sure if the cerb started out as a AJP8 or Spd6

Dulford's have a Tuscan in with a Chevy LS1 & TKO box at moment (road not race tuscan) that they're sorting after the box wasn't fitted straight by someone. They reckon they could fit with no problem to Tam/T350, but would need extra investment to keep the fast gearchange (small flywheel/twin plate clutches available but pricey).

Overall, I'd still prefer the S6's top-end power delivery, not to mention heritage. But a test drive would be nice.... biggrin

Any cars for sale and links available? Be interested to see what kind of premium (if at all) they might command over "stock".

I do like the idea of an M3 V8 in there!

How about dropping an AJP V8 in and at least keeping it pure TVR. As an alternative to the M3 V8, how about the Audi R8 V8 ?

Isn't the M3 engine the same basic design as the Sp6? If you took the name off the top, very difficult to tell appart, they even can over in the engine bay the same.

You're thinking about the Jag straight six.

I used to work at Marcos on the TSO project and all I can say is the chevy LS2 lump is absolutely brilliant. Doesnt ever! go wrong, so reliable, enough torque to pull a house down. Loads of bottom end grunt, doesn't rev, but with the right exhaust system can sound like it screams. honestly absolutely brilliant engines!
another plus side is OMEX have the mapping for the LS units and you can do so much to them from aftermarket tuners in the states. and parts are cheap!!!

I'm going to look at the option of LS2 when it comes to the time of rebuild. What are people thoughts of what it would it do to the value of the car? Also would it add weight/affect the handling?

I've heard varying reports as to whether the LS2 would fit in the Sagaris / T350 chassis or not. Some say "should" others say "doesn't". This is the first time I've heard someone claim it "does" rather than "should".

Given that Racing Green are so active in both the TVR and Jaguar worlds, I'd quite like to see the 4.2 Supercharged V8 out of the XKR in a Sagaris. That would be amusing and at least keep the illusion of Britishness (even though we all know that Jaguar are owned by Ford)

Just slightly O/T, how does the size/weight of the S/C Jag V8 compare with the Rover V8?

I'd missed that. But, yes, sold to India's Tata Motors by Ford on 2 June 2008 according to Wikipedia.

Still has a strong link to Britain though, and founded as a British company, so my point still stands. smile

Edit: Ford really are selling off the family jewels, aren't they?

Interesting thread. Any ideas on budget and time it would take to effect a good solid conversion? Who'd be the man for the job?
