Journey back with new T350 200 miles!

Just a quick and dirty update, i posted a wk ago about trading in my 911 for a TVR with some trepadation.

I picked the car up from Nottingham(Private sale from the classifieds in PH, reg no. L13 TVR)

First impressions:

Wow what a noise, but can still hear radio if volume turned up, but hey who wants too!

Filled up with petrol used about 35L which i thought was good.

First impressions of driving, it is a little mad, it takes some getting used to, but once you work out the power line and handling capabilities it is an absolute hoot.

Its very tight and rattle free, dosnt really smell of fibreglass or get hot in the cabin but it has got AC which i didnt need.

It seems much faster than my 911 which is a 2 yr old Carrera S.

Can i live with it every day as i do the 911, dont know yet, it certainly is very useable in traffic and at slow speeds, i suppose it is just the noise that you would have to get used to.

A few concerns:

Oils temp never got above around 52, and a couple of times I had a "Oil temp sensor" warning code failure, which seemed to rectify itself, the guy i bought it from had a new sensor put on just before i bought it so i am wondering if it was faulty or if there is a more serious issue, maybe you guys could help on that one, i will be phoning the garage today to see what he has to say.

I will try and write some more once i have driven it with some anger.

Glad you like your new TVR! I look forward to seeing you out in your new toy on the local roads.

Oil temp in mine sits at about 60-70 on a run depending on air temp and hotter in traffic at 80+ so yours seems a little low but better than being too high I guess. I get the oil sensor warning intermittently also and it seem to be related to the position of the steering wheel! so I just ignore it.

Thanks for the advise re the oil sensor, it is still a worry as it seems to come on if i really accelerate hard and as it is all still new to me, is the general advise just to ignore it.

The water and oil temps and pressures all seem spot on just this bloody sensor warning.

I think if your oil temp and pressure are OK and you have the right level of oil you should be OK. Just be sure to check the oil level in the correct way as its a dry sump. The bleeps are annoying though but I havent got to the bottom of mine yet but its been like it for ages and its had a service so not too bothered.

I expect I will be going to the Wilts TVRCC meet at The Rising Sun, Lacock next Wednesday, fancy popping along?

That meet sounds great, it is about 6miles from where i live so i will be there.

What time do you get there and is it a suppa thing or just a drink etc

I usually get there about 7:30 to 8:00 and most people just have a beer but some eat so its up to you. Its a mix of people too, some yonger some older and the same with the TVR's.

Now is maybe a good time to mention oil temperature vs revs - learning the power delivery line and hard accelerating with 52 degrees oil (if all is in order) is a quick way to an early grave for your engine. A serach should reveal revs that are safe when engine/oil is cold, or better still, a read through the owners handbook?

I made a mistake the temp was running at around 60-80 depending on speed and time of night so all should be in order i hope.

Welcome mate

I hope you enjoy your new toy. It will take a few days to settle down and just when you think all is under control and your let it have some, it may just remind you in a very nice way what TVR'S are all about. I hope you enjoy and take it easy!
