Was looking at buying a Sag and looked at this (note it's also for sale at a Dealers on Autotrader for £44k):-

In the ad it says Hpi clear.... but then I saw this:-

It is not a mark II just rear facing pipes, it does not have the arial in the roof, the updated bonnet or the part cover inside the bonnet.

if anybody as bothered to hpi this car you will find it is not a cat D the car has had a rear panel and a new spoiler it didn't even damage the rear lights or diffuser ,most tvrs on the road you will find have had a panel or two fitted ,this car is 39k and represents great value the car comes with full photographic repair at tvr body shop and a twelve month warranty. this was very minor damage and is one of the nicest sags available. However any one thats looking for a cheaper sag i have them starting at 29k !

Thats all very well and the car may well be as good as new (or even better), however, the correct thing to do would be to mention in the advert that the car has had some repair work so the potential buyer has all the facts. You also mention the HPI but the advert states the car is HPI clear?? I have always been a bit confused as to what an HPI check does actually tell you about a cars history.TGJR said:

And TBH, why else would a salvage house get its paws on it at this point? If the car was insured 3rd party only it would not get registered as a CAT D if the salvage company bought it direct from the owner.
The advert should state it has had a rear end repair.
I would buy it if I wanted a SAG, the repairs wouldn't put me off. I would contact the last owner before I parted with cash though.

I know a little about this car. At the time of the accident is was stationary is a queue of traffic waiting for the lights to change. It was then hit from behind by a Range Rover. The impact was at a very slow speed. It was only the rear panel and window that was damaged. Most of the mess was caused by the Tyre Fill canisters exploding. The stuff was all over the place. The car was then driven from the accident site to Blackpool, some 70 miles away. I looked at the damage and can concur that it was not very serious at all. The owner told me that the car drove perfectly. I have no connection with the people selling this car, I thought I would just tell you what I know about it.

The relatively minor nature of the incident is all the more reason to mention in the advert that the car has had 'light rear damage repair, hence price....' rather than stating 'HPI clear'.Edited by NTEL on Tuesday 29th July 09:48
