Water check for Sagaris

Hey all. Being new to TVR ownership, I am askng for advice on how is the easiest way to measure water levels in my Sagaris. Do I have to take the whole bonnet off or can i check using the inspection chamber. Thanks for your help as always.

Just remove the service bonnet, blue cap very close to main bonnet though.

I have 'aquired' some of those long thin wooden hot drinks stir sticks from the motorway services which are very useful to dip in the expansion tank to check the level accurately as it can be difficult to see in. My handbook stated to fill expansion chamber to within 20mm of top, but this is too much, follow Grahams advice as above.

I will second that, manufactures recommendations is too much, sounds mad but the more you put in the more you will be filling it !

Do leven do a filler cap for the expansion tank? The blue jobbie is a bugger to get off and usually leads to skinned knuckles because of the location.

When I bought the car, the owner said you can fill the water reservoir from the silver tank in the middle of the engine inspection bay (obviously, not the oil one)to full . Is this correct?

Depends what car, if its a later T350 or Sagaris then there is an expansion tank to aid cooling. The silver tank is called the 'swirl pot' (or atleast that what my dealer said )

If you have the expansion tank (blue cap) then you should be filling that, it does make sense however to check the silver tank is full to the top (with the expansion tank sealed) every so often.

My dealer also recommended bleeding the radiators but so far I haven`t done that, and I`m not experiencing overheating..

I would make sure that both of them are at the right level. The one with the blue cap should be two thirds full as everyone says not as per the manual - I had loads of water all over the garage floor from doing this wrong in my first couple of weeks of ownership. The central tall and thin one with the brass top should be as full as you can get it and check this on a regular basis as well as it can get a air lock in it. Make sure you do both when the car is totally cold.
