My AutoProtect (wear and tear) is about to run out. Assuming they write or phone me to offer another 12 months has anyone else got one of these. It cost £1,600 for the first year and I have had about £200 of sensors replaced. The bit that concerns me is that when at RG they said they don't use them anymore as they have had problems with claims on engines etc.
Any comments or alternatives?

Thanks

Check and read your Autoprotect warranty small print.....i had the gold warranty and when my engine needed a rebuild due to the common S6 problem of 'unable to achieve valve clearances'....to put it simply they wouldn't pay a penny towards the rebuild. As far as engine warranty goes Autoprotect are a total waste of money.

Did you let it lapse or did you buy an alternative that would cover most things?

I bought a warranty from a company called car2cover (http://www.car2cover.co.uk/). I did quite a bit of research before I bought. The cover cost about £500 and they cover me for anything that breaks up to the value of the car, no excess. I thought this would be too good to be true but I have claimed for a oil temp sender, water temp sender, starter motor and they have paid up without any problem. They also pay up to £90 per hour labour which is much higher than most.

The trouble with most car warranties is that they only cover for what breaks - not for what's worn out or what has broken as a consequence of the original part failing. Usually its quite clear......... in the small print.

Due to the name and shaming rules on this site, I can't really say anything about Auto Protect, other than that I wouldn't choose to use them again wink

It's a real shame the site doesn't allow "naming and shaming", but neeedless to say I would NEVER recommend AutoProtect as the warranty for me wasn't worth the paper it was written on. frown

If anyone wishes to contact me privately outside of this forum for more info feel free.

WarrantyDirect seem very open and honest smile

Resurrecting this thread just incase anyone was thinking of paying for a car2cover warranty.

I paid £645 for a 3 year 'Platinum' warranty (obviously due to name and shame restrictions I cannot confirm or deny precisely which company I cover my car 2).

All 4 of my Tam shockers have blown and are not leaking oli but have pissed the lot out.

The car is not driveable and has been sat at the dealers for a week.

The warranty jokers sent an independent inspector out to look at it. According to the dealer he agreed that this is a mechanical failure not a wear and tear issue. The warranty idiots are saying that his report says that they have worn out. I have to fax a request to them to see the report and pay if I want to arrange for my own inspection.

Car is 5 years old and has done 27k miles.

Anyone know the best way to get these people to pay up?

I didn't bother to renew in the end - then a month later the clutch failed, probably wouldn't have paid out anyway!

I honestly believe that a claim form on the desk focuses the mind better than anything else.

Insurance companies get away with murder a lot of the time. Put in a claim and they'll need to decide very carefully as to whether they want to take the risk of losing and your publicising it all over the place. It is more than likely that the level of quantum here will mean this is a straightforward County Court issue with no costs consequences.

Send them a cover letter with a draft claim form and then if they don't pay up within a reasonable time limit, just issue in the Court. No more talking - show them you're serious. Best of luck.

Difficulty there is that they can just say that they had not authorised the work before it was carried out.

I'd need to summarise the situation and outline my intentions in a letter sent to them prior to getting the work done.

I'm tempted to have a go though, but I need to see precisely what their assessor put in his report. It's £100 for me to get my own assessor apparently and, for all I know, he may well think that 4 shocks blowing after 5 years is due to wear and tear and not a mechanical failure.

I thought I better clear something up as I had been quoted ealier in this thread.

Car2cover were great for the first year of my Warranty but in September l;ast year, they sold all their policies to Autoprotect and ever since, the policy has not been worth the paper it is written on.

I had an issue with my clutch earlier this year and so I called car2cover (now Autoprotect) and they said it will be fine, they just needed to talk to the garage that was doing the work. Whenever the garage called, they told them it was not covered. Whenever I called they said it was fine and the garage had not called them. Now as the person who was calling them was Martin from RG, I have complete faith in what he tells me. So after a lot of calls to Autoprotect from me, I wanted RG to procede with the work because I wanted my car back. I thought I could claim the cost back from the warranty company but they refused because the work was done without their authorisation. Authoristation I was told would not be a problem and they would not give to RG because of some bulls***t.

I am no longer happy with the warranty and will no longer be using them in the future.
