Chafing of battery cables

Following the recent news on here regarding T-car fires I thought I'd take a look at mine this afternoon. The current battery is original and over 4 years old so I plan to replace it while I'm down in there. I found chafing on 2 positive and 1 negative cables. While not enough to expose the inner metal cables it was still a little alarming as another year or so might have resulted in a different story. I'll re-arrange things while I'm changing my battery - I suggest any owners able to remove a wheel should take a look at theirs.

Also, my car still had the hi-tech foam in place to prevent the live connections touching the metal (earthed) insulation. Some may not...

P.S. Has anyone got a good source for that windey cable wrapping stuff to put around the cables and help prevent chafing?

Yes, don't need quite that much though...

Maplin sell that http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ModuleNo=26849... again only in 10M lengths but its cheap enough and can be used elsewhere around the house

Try VEHICLE WIRING PRODUCTS LTD 0115 9305454,they do all sizes per metre and do mail order.I changed my battery to one same size but with poles opposite way round,cables reached ok and now looks a lot safer.
