Top speed in a speed six

I'm sure this type of thread has been covered... but I was wondering how people found their cars handeled at higher speeds?

I personaly notice a big change as I slip over a ton and then another change at around 130, from then it feels the same up to just over 150, and thats as far as I got to.

As far as I'm awear TVR didnt use CAD on any of their cars for down force, and as a result the one thing that runs through my brain at those speeds is 'How much traction is there!' shortly followed by 'that last mile cost me about fifty pounds'

These cars are good for 170 plus on paper... has anyone ever got there? does it feel like you might explode into a ball of fire at any second?

I didn't wish to be first to post my speed (safe to say its a legal 170+ in a Sagaris) No more drama than any other car I've driven at that speed drama other than a bit of wind noise..

I get nervous above 150 in any car, and a TVR tends to make more noise/communicate with you more than most other cars. I've hit 165 on the autobahn once for a short while, it was noisy and felt as OK as 165 feels in any car. Our old Audi TT felt a bit nervous at 145mph, the TVR felt no worse. That's a proper 165 btw, the speedos are close to spot on on most T-cars.

In the UK? I only tend to squirt up to fast speeds for a mile or two and let off again, and definitely nowhere near the above speed. I have a clean license.

Ha! I'm glad you saw the funny side... I was a bit worried someone might think I was being stropy.

I dont blame you, I wouldn't want to either... I know you have to be sensibal what you talk about on the web. I used to have a little Audi S3 which I took up to 155, and i could have been on the phone and tuning the radio, it was that steady... the TVR is so different. It gets the heart beat going at any speed over 115 or so (on the german roads of course).

I just wondered if I should be carful (more than normal) when attempting speeds of 155+

The guy next door to me has a car that does over 175 in quater of a mile so maybe I should so being such a baby! ha.

Yes and no
The only time I was nervous was a top speed run on a dyno 174mph - good job it was well tied down!

A Tuscan felt fairly stable (but noisy) at 165mph on the main runway at Bruntingthorpe.
Having said that, its a bit worrying when the top of the instrument binnacle vibrates off doing that speed.....

Glad to report that I lived to tell the tale.
Even more glad that it wasn't my car but a trackday company's.

It was enough to persuade me to buy a TVR.
