Tamora Roll Cage

Hi all

A few friends of mine have had incidents over the last year that have led me to consider the sfety of the tamora in an incident.

Has anyone fitted a roll bar that is sympathetic to the style and shape of the car (i.e. mirrors the outline of the seats) yet still has structural integrity.

I would prefer not to spoil the space available behind the seats if possible

If interested I have roll cage taken from 02 Tamora originally fitted by Custom Cages for Steve Guiliami, very strong improving car rigidity and very tidy welding. Just fits behind seats and under hood. Need to fit 2 skts behind seat at floor level and 2 mounting points in middle of parcel shelf. Finished in Matt Black.
Car has a full cage fitted now ready for Oulton with Tuscans.
To make a cage worth having it will need fitting to main chassis points which already partly exist I believe.
It is currently with Power bodyshop in N'hampton if you need to look at it, let me know and will make arrangements.

You'll be pleased to know that the Tamora already has a substantial roll hoop built in to the window surround that actually works ... unlike the Griff/Chim version which would fold if you sat on it let alone turned the car upside down.

Do a search for a post from Nubbin a few years ago where he rolled his Tamora quite seriously and walked away.

I also saw a Tamora at the factory in late 2002/early 2003 that had rolled, and the windscreen wasn't even cracked. A very effective roll bar.

Blimey!

I was advised that the windscreen surround was merely 'a piece of mild steel' hence my concerns

Will continue to consider though I think....

i have been looking at a roll bar for my tam have been quoted approx 1200+vat
by rollcentre most is development cost maybee if a few of us want one we can get a better deal

I bought a full cage for my 3000M. The company I used designed it, built it, had it powder coated, removed my old one and fitted the new one. It cost 1000GBP all inclusive. 1410GBP for a roll bar is an absolute fortune/daylight robbery!

Thanks for the replies guys - I was thinking more of the roll over hoop type arangement, following the contour of the seat backs than a full race cage - after all me and the Mrs still use it for work some times!!

I have seen some on Griff's (TBDGriff I think) so I may see where they got theirs made up.

Form and function is often a diffficult balance to achieve - especially when the importance is so heavily weighted in the favour of function.

The Tuscan Challenge cars have a very nice looking roll cage, but then it was designed to be there from the start. That said, it regularly upsets scrutineers at race meetings as its legality (as I uundesrstand) is border-line.

The worst looking roll hoops I have seen are in a Griffith that was recently for sale in the classifieds - made worse to try and match the mag interior.

I have to admit - that was the kind of thing I was thinking of and this photo is a picture of a friends car. Since starting the thread I have had an email from the company giving a very reasonable estimate for the work in return for my car for a couple of days.

Hi Dick
The cage for sale was fitted into car for extra protection in road use before I bought it, built very strongly it follows the underside of the roof loop behind the seats. I am not sure about rules for sprinting but looking at others believe it would more than suffice, check with TVRCC they will keep you right. I used Hauser Racing Northampton for new cage which was designed to exceed standards required for Challenge and similar races, as they build some of the best drag cars which demand far higher standards I had no issues in asking them to do the work, the new cage now runs forward into engine bay for extra strength and price was about 2.5k which I think was very reasonable considering the amount of work required.

Agree the front of car is anything but pretty this was a quick fix to get car running and as it is the first race Tamora to enter Challenge that is being built between Northampton, Lancashire and Kinross (home) difficult to find time, so priorities are for functionality and to pass scrutineering first, looks later. I leave the latter to the spit and polish brigade
Car will do its first race at Oulton this Sat, car will look same then go to Bodyshop for work to be completed, should be about 25+ cars this w/e so first corner will be a fight and expecting some bodywork to fly.

Will get pic of loop this w/e and drop on site next week all being well.
