Hi there to all just bought a tamora, so excited as its my first tvr!!! have wanted one of these cars for ages now and finally i have one!! booked in with ryan at SP Automotive in chester to have the T350 headlight conversion which from looking at some pictures looks amazing! also getting the front of the car tidied up as it was damaged and stone chipped. Saw the tuscan he has in there with front end damage which he has just painted and it looks amazing, i have never seen paintwork which looks like glass before i cant wait to get the tamora back albeit looking considerably meaner!

anyone got any clues on the perf upgrades for these? want a sports exhaust but dont want to be deaf!

also i heard that the tamora was detuned compared to the other 3.6 speed six?? is this correct? and what can i do to make it faster!

Thanks in advance

Hi Mark I'm also a new TVR'r with a Tamora in Weston S Mare.
Dulfords in Collumpton would be a good place to start with upgrades & servicing etc
I have a sports exhaust fitted not sure who's it is but it is loud and can be a pain but these things are supposed to sound mean so I'm sticking with it.

What have you bought age/colour etc
Where did you buy it from?

Get a picture posted so we can have a look.

Have you joined the TVRCC as there is a big club meet in Bristol with lot's of run outs and meet up's.

Cheers

Barry

Would like to see the pics of your machine after the work...

As for exhaust, I have Blueflame exhaust which I think is somewhere between the JP and the standard pipes. Gives some pops and gurgles rather than bangs. Might be what you are after.

Dont think the Tam is any different to any other 3.6 engine.

Enjoy the car.

Don't make it go faster yet!

Learn to wring the most out of what you've got first. Plenty fast as it is.

Then, save plenty pennies and many options for go-faster.

Hi Mark,

If you are a member of TVRcc and can get hold of March 2008 issue of sprint then there is my article in there on the upgrades I did to my Tamora. All the upgrades were done at Dulfords. I had the speed 6 rebuilt/upgraded from 3.6L to 4.0L Red Rose Spec, Nitron shocks all round, ACT Air Box, Alloy Radiator, JP Sports Exhaust, and Tuscan S front disc brakes.

I'd be interested in your T350 head light conversion as this is something I want to do on my Tamora. Future upgrade ideas are, rear anti roll bar/4-way harness, Interior leather redone, maybe a new Diff?

Let me know if you want anymore detailed info about the upgrades.

Enjoy the Tamorathumbup

I aways thought it was more like standard; JP; Blueflame; RG sport etc...

At least thats what I had been planning my exhaust purchase off, am I wrong?

Blueflame is quieter than a JP, dont know about RG.

I think once you get know your car it will be plenty fast enough, lots of people fall into "its not fast" "it don`t feel quicker than xyz car" after a 10 mile test drive, it takes time to use the full power, then, there ain`t much on the road that will live with you, including the mighty Cerbs and Sagsbiggrin Other scalps include, F355, Porker Carrera S2, Lambo Countach,Panterra, and any RV8 Tiv.Ive not come across any thing that it couldn`t hold its own against.
I have Racing Green/TVR Power sports exhaust, which are just right imo.
Good luck with your purchase.

Hi, I have had a Chim 400 for 18 months and just bought a T350T also, an 05 with only 1100 miles, I am a lucky guy.
I was going to change the exhaust but it is new and Paul mand Heath from X Works Service (Highly Reccomended)advised decatting instead. They said that the factory did loads of tests on the dyno and not one BHP increase from any exhaust. The decats form Quickky are things of beauty and make the sound of noise I wanted, with a bit of gurgle and bark when lifting off. They aerae about£350 and the decats can be kept in case an MOT station does not like you.
I find the seat belt recoil mechanism a fiddle and am considering a full harness. I may fabricate a stainless bar between both top anchors and make two centre ones too for high centre mounts. If anyone else has done this please help.
God I love my car
Donald

As per T66ora. If you don't think your car is the quickest thing you've driven, you probably have only found 25% of the throttle travel or are changing up before the point at which your vision greys out hehe . First performance upgrade should probably be driving lessons (and none of us should be too proud to admit it). Not that we're forming a list or endorsing such behaviour but I'll add Porsche 997 4S and Ferrari 599 to the list of scalps with a completely standard car... wink Congrats on your purchase btw and be careful, it's slippery out there.

I'll give you some advice nobody told me when I had my Tam, the roof may fly off, as it did with me at a very high speed and took my side window with it!

I'm sure it depends who is behind the wheel, but I can add some big hitters to the scalped list. Audi R8, 2007 911 turbo, Saggy (even stevens really),Merc AMG 6.3l, Scoobys and Evos, Testarossa, Cobra replicas, M3 CSL... the list goes on. Its a very quick car that feels fast at low speeds. I would try pushing 160 - 170mph before you throw money at it. I've still never quite made it to the top...

Enjoy!

The 3.6 in the Tam is exactly the same unit that went into the T350 and the Tuscan. If you want a bit more performance, you might be referring to having a bit more torque low down in which case I'd recommend a decat and re-map but get your exhaust changed first. I thought it was fairly common knowledge that the factory exhaust on the T350 robbed the car of some power - I'm not sure whether or not this applies to the Tam. You could get a bigger bore system made up that goes straight through (this will be very loud) and fit the Sagaris/Tuscan S headers. My personal opinion is that the exhaust does make a difference.

iv got a tamora and you will never find that sensation of speed too , was thinking of geting hold of the new megan r32 super duper roll caged all singing danceing nurburg edition but took the tamora out lasts night first time in weeks, in the damp, tiwce had to catch to arm fulls of opp lock ! and another 20mins down the moor roads i thought WOW no other car would make you so involved and enjoy finding its limits the fun, easeing the power down listening to the exhaust howl and pop boarder line scary stuff , i was having a whale of a time and it made me think. any other car would probley be covering the ground faster but only giving 50% of the fun.
for a car with running costs of a M3 , it offers the thrills only the £100k pluss car club enjoy

Total agreement about fun and involvement.

Not so sure about other, lesser cars, covering ground more quickly.

Wasn't there a report mentioned on here where a very hot hatch was pitted against a Tam on some nice windey roads and the Tam stuffed it?

Standard Scoobys, Evos and an overweight 20+ year old Italian supercar yes and maybe some of the lesser engined Cobra reps - Yes I agree 100%. wink

A Tamora is a very good car, I know we have one in our garage at home that is certainly quicker than the standard item, but comparing a good very quick sports car with supercars.. Er...No.

Sag and CSL are not supercars but are both quicker, the 911 Turbo and the R8 however are in a different pewrformance league. frown

Surely the R8 would only be quicker A to B in more slippery road conditions John? In good conditions I would have thought a Sag would decimate it. However I must say I think the Audi's brakes are phenomenal.

IMHO A to B and lap times are mostly down to the driver and rarely the car. A few years ago I was at Castle Coombe for a track day in my 450 with an F40 amongst others. I'm sure we all know which one is the 'supercar'. To cut a long story short, the F40 driver (you know the sort, full racing gear including fancy boots and fire protection under the helmet) got pretty pissed at me keeping up with him and eventually spun off casing quite a bit of damage. But in 2007 I was at Castle Coombe again, this time in the Sagaris and a mildly modified Ferrari GT4 got past eventually. He raced at the weekends, I don't.

So unless the car is driven by the same driver in the same conditions, defining what is and isn't a 'supercar' is pretty pointless. That is one the major reasons I like Top Gears lap times. That is as close as it gets to an objective measure I think. The Sagaris and R8 are next to each other, so I don't see how one can be a 'supercar' and the other not?
