Squeaky pop / cough

Another day - another bout of paranoia

So, took the old man out for a spin in the car at lunchtime - nice 20 odd mile round trip to get everything nice and warm so I could have some fun on the last bit of the journey. Sitting at around 60mph in 5th so approx. 2.5k revs as per std. warm up procedure.

Every few seconds there is a slightly odd squeaky pop / cough which sounds like it's coming from the exhaust. Once out on the open road and fully warmed up I get the same sort of noise under medium (1/2 throttle) acceleration - not all the time, just now and again. It didn't seem to effect the acceleration of the car unduly - at least not that I noticed, but it is an odd noise!

Any ideas as to the cause?

Any possibility it's a tiny bit of detonation? Sounds a bit like an "almost stall". Perhaps you were forced to put some slightly sub standard fuel in it? Only suggest it 'cos it sounds like it's happening under certain combinations of engine speed, load and temperature.

Please don't be offended if it's very clearly not this - I have the engineering knowledge of a chimp!

It actually seemed OK again this morning so who knows - perhaps some substandard fuel (bloody V-Power!) perhaps an intermittent electrical fault - who can say

Mine has always made a similar sound on occasion, usually on very light throttle. I balanced up the throttle bodies last weekend which seems to have cleared the problem completely.

Thanks for the info. The noise was back again on the way home so seems like it could be temperature-related (indicated 8 degrees in the morning and 22 in the afternoon).

Hi Dark,
Give her a tank of super unleaded if you dont already and then after warm up take on a fast run down motorway for a couple of miles. Mine Tamora did the same a few weeks ago when they ahd run out of super and i put a tank of cheap stuff in.
