How are people doing it these days, prices have obviously
gone up and I do see some companies promoting a dual car
cover type scheme. I only had 2nd car for a year now and
the prices have gone right up, something about only
being able to use your 'full' no claims on one vehicle
plus any 'protection' you want on that !

Any experience much appreciated,

gt.

Hi Gary,

I did mine through directline where they use the no claims from one policy and replicate it on the second. It worked out no too bad for a Tam and a 7Series BMW. It was the best 2 car option I could find.

I had/have 2 cars and 2 motorbikes and thought that it had been like this for at least the last few years.

With one of the TVR insurance specialists, who someone will no doubt mention soon or try a search, it is actually an advantage to have 2 cars when insuring the TVR as it is massively cheaper due to being seen as the second car. I had just sold my second car but at the time the TVR insurance costs would have worked out about 50% of the usual suspects (Tesco, AA, Elephant, etc)

The way I have done it is find the cheapest for each and move the NCD around to get the most off. As far as I am aware the NCD is not vehicle specific and can be applied to your cars as you wish.

Currently insuring five and I've found best way is to go car by car. You get the best package of terms and price from the specialists. Looked into fleet insurance and you bascially pay extra for the convenience of only having to negotiate and renew once instead of multiple correpondence. Other things to look out for are :

As someone said it helps to have other cars as they realise you can't be driving them all at once

Even though you may not have multiple NCD, if you have a good record then they'll invariably give you intro NCD if inquire

Watch out for track day cover on the TVR. Often comes standard with a specialist whereas you have to pay extra with a mainstream company. Also watch for the track day excess

Helps to put the wife on the insurance (for some bizarre reason) even if she has no intention of driving

Staggered recently by a company telling me they wanted to increase my premium if I was going to put the car in a locked, alarmed garage - apparently I might damage it driving in, or something might fall on it.

Happy hunting

We insure several cars and a motorbike. All fully comp and max NCB is reflected across all of the cars (the bike has its own anyway).

We save a fortune.

Try Sunninghill or whatever they are called now Jeff?? 0870 7878017

It is sir, 8 cars, a motorhome and the trusty ducati! (less than 2300 GBP and no useage restrictions and includes track use!)

Thanks, I'll give them a try. Think I was over 3k this year, but then again I do live in the London area - bound to be a sharp intake of breath when they here that. wink

I am using classicline. Its a bargain compared to the previous places. But since I became a dad I am now not really a regular user so I went for less than 5000 miles a year insurance.
