Saggy prices - what a range?
Discussion
Is it just me or has the world gone mad. Sagaris cars at dealers for more than £38000. I specifically refer to the ones over £40k which I think are rediculously priced considering what they cost when they were new. Can I just give everyone a wake up call as it will be 2009 in a few weeks!
And dealers I know you have to make money, vat, warranty, part ex etc , but seriously are these cars selling for that kind of money, they were little more when new. Great cars by the way, but I would want dampers, diff, c/r box, full leather, new windsreen, paintshield, sat nav, carbon air box, tracker etc for that kind of money.

All I can say is that cars are worth "what people are willing to pay for them" - regardless of wearing a TVR, BMW or Ford badge on the bonnet.
If Sags are actually selling at £45k plus, then thats what the price is. In a way, it does favours for those with Sags as it keeps the prices high.
Just my 2 pennith worth...

I would be quite happy to pay that if the car is right with the right back up service.
I paid top money for mine (in the 40's) but it did only have 800 miles on the clock and it is a 08 car on a 57 plate. As said it iswoth what you are prepared to pay for it and I have been offered the same money for mine recently but turned it down.

Ultimately, it will be supply and demand that dicates the price. With limited numbers available and what seems to be a sort after TVR, will hopefully keep prices firm. I have just paid in the mid thirties for an 06 plate with fully history, and 12K miles, which i am well pleased with.
09 will be intersting for sure, but despite all the doom and gloom, surprisingly there are still people out there that are prepared to spend when the right car comes available.

What a strange post....
Talk down the cost of the top of the range desirable models and you will talk down the cost of your own model be it T350 or Tamora (or Cebera).
The last Sags built were north of 55k with a good spec, so why when they are a little over 2 years old should they not be worth 40K considering their rarity, ability and desirability and relatively nominal mileage some have been driven?

I responded to a similar post in September, but my thinking goes something like this:
1. TVR's have only ever been made in limited numbers. The best examples of the most desirable models (I'm told by dealers this is the Sagaris and the Griffith) will always command a premium. E-Types are a great example of this phenomenon.
2. All TVR's depreciate during the first five years, the amount varies by model, but then prices harden or even go up. I recently paid more for a 9 year old Griff than another I sold at 5 years old with roughly the same mileage and in similar condition. I also saw my old 450 only going for slightly less than I sold it for 14 years ago.
3. As everyone knows, it is a buyers market right now, there are real Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin and TVR bargains to be had. This may last into 2009 but certainly won't last forever.
4. TVR's always have been slow sellers from about November to March. This is the time you'll get the best deal even under normal circumstaces. I've made several stonking deals during this period in the past.
So, if you want the best deal possible on a Sagaris, the next few months may be the ideal time. I can well see the prices hardening or even going up again next Spring. Only needs a small number of people with £35K to clear the current stock. And no, mine isn't for sale (dealers keep asking me too) but you can see some great pictures taken by others on the Fighting Torque website. http://www.fightingtorque.org/supercar/

Glad to have raised a few opinions. I still think that a Saggy will hold its money once it has hit 25 - 30k. I personally do not mind paying if its a good car in the right colour and the right spec. Maybe I will get another Sag for Christmas if I can get it down the chimney.1. TVR's have only ever been made in limited numbers. Personally and with some experience I would like to add that I believe that potential TVR buyers are going to be in for some serious discounts next year.
I am prepared to gamble money on prices falling a lot.
There are many arguements for this happening and very few against.
Excellent post, thanks for the heads up on the state of the economy. Your enlightenment will come as a shock to many...I am prepared to gamble money on prices falling a lot.

I know one for sale at the moment that won't be seriously discounted.

Ah so its an I told you so post, no further insight into lots of arguements for and very few against etc..You keep it in your favorites, and maybe add a reminder to look at thethe number that will sell well overseas when the Euro gets even closer to parity with the Pound.

I have just taken mine off the market - it was up for £30k but don't need to sell it so I am going to wait till next spring when the prices for Sags will go up - not down! Now is the worst time to sell any car - before Xmas, middle of winter etc so if you are thinking of buying fill your boots now...not next year.
I had quite a few enquirys for mine but most wanted to do a p/ex. The dealers are still selling them as pretty much as fast as they can get them - the high mileage one (45k) at Fernhurst sold in 3 days for £26k a couple of weeks ago and they have had a few offers on their LHD which is up for 54k.
Just my 2p

Personally, as one who inquired about your car, i feel your pricing was about right. Dealer prices seem crazy to me but the market will decide (if it is too high it will not sell) The problem I have with sagari is the differential with an equivalent T350. I can't justify (or afford) the difference at the moment.I had quite a few enquirys for mine but most wanted to do a p/ex. the sagaris in my opinion is an outstanding car, a far superior proposition than nearly every car i can think of that costs 30 - 40k more. to that end even ones costing 45k are a bargain. that's how you should qualify them.
I disagree, paying say £30-35K for a private sale 20k miles example won't look like great value vs say a Cayman s if the engine needs a rebuild after 2k miles of ownership. My thoughts are if you buy any Speed 6 TVR privately you need to add £5-6k to the price in your mind for a possible rebuild.Ryder35 said:

The whole engine rebuild debate is nowhere as bad as people who know nothing on the subject make out - Granted, some of the early speed 6 engines did go bang, but engines built post 2004 or engines that have had a rebuild that incorporated a few reliability mods are as bullet-proof as any other manufactures.
Not aimed in anyone in particular, but too many people on here saying TVRs are overpriced and not worth the money people are asking for them. If you can't afford, please go and buy a Porker instead rather than trying to drive down the prices of the car you really want to buy.
