Heater fan - any ideas????

just been out in the car and the heater fan lights light up all the way around but the fan does not seem to be working. (tried it loads of times)

I have checked the fuses but they all seem ok. I may be looking at the wrong fuse, any idea which number just in case? Or any other ideas?

The heater control unit which is velcroed onto the underside of the glove box melted in my car, needed sent away for a new plug and capacitor/resistor whatever it is. have a look and see if looks melted in any way or if you press the top of the black round things and the pop in, apparently its fked.

First try switch fans off totally

Remove controller- make sure you don't get burnt- it maybe cooking hot



Maybe just overheated and needs cooling to reset, but known to be not up to the job

As others say it can still fail when in glove box it just helps with cooling and extending its life

I have had 3 so far. 2 involved totally melted wires.

They are notorious for getting very hot and melting the wires onto the plugs.

You can order a new one from Power if your wires are ok.

Noisy told me a trick, make sure you switch the fans off before you turn off the ignition, then after starting the car again, wait a minute or so to switch them back on, this stops any extra volts going through and can extend the life a bit longer. I always turn my down first to the lowest speed and the temp to cold before switching the fans off completely.

Thanks, just tookthe glove box out and there was a loose connecion on the unit. Al fixed now.

Thanks for the heads up, I am going to order a new one from power, i think it is causing problems with or without the loose conection.

Also helps cold starting and avoids stalling on idle, if up tune up is overdue

Yes, it was terminal block loose on the pins of the heater controller that was the problem for mine in the end.
