Idle Speed

Hi,

I'm having a struggle setting the idle speed on the Tamora - it's running at about 1050 - 1100 when warmed up but that seems a tad high. Trouble is, if I adjust any lower it keeps on cutting out when cold - it doesn't seem to like a cold idle speed any lower than about 800 - 850. Anybody else have this problem? Should I just live with the car idling at around 1050 - 1100 when warm or is there something else I can do?

Mine was doing this a lot before I took it in to TrackVroad for servicing and someone much more knowledgeable will surely correct me on specifics, but IIRC some cars (definitely mine) need the throttle bodies re-aligning every 2-3000 miles to allow a good cold idle.

I use mine everyday and TrackVRoad have set it up perfectly with 650rpm on cold start and 950rpm when warm now.

I have to have mine done every 2000 miles

Idle speed certainly varies a bit over time. X Works Services (Heath/Paul) always sort mine out for me, and the Tamora is currently running around 900rpm warm.

Its the throttle bodies. Going to trackvroad this thursday for a service as mine cuts out on start up unless a little bit of throttle is applied. they do need sorting every so often as said above which will allow your idle to be set lower. yes as said above everyone's idle is a little bit diffrent. Mine runs around 550-600 cold and 600-700 when warmed up. I think i might have my idle adjusted while i'm at it anyway as it seems a tad low.

The problem might also be a faulty crank shaft speed sensor. My Tam raced on hot idle, especially after stopping say to put fuel in. Cost about £35 (its a ford part) and £50 labour to replace and set up. Castle picked it up on the service when they ran the diagnostics, its been fine ever since

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions - I'll get the throttle bodies and the crank shaft speed sensor checked out - the engine does race a bit on firing up after a hot start before it settles down again.
