Help needed - No power steering

Hi guys- went to go for a spin in my Tamora and I have no power steering, any idea what it could be?..

In the battery hidey hole there is a green wire on a plug connected to the +ve terminal on the battery, this is the live feed for the PS pump. dodgy connection or blown fuse I would guess. If its not fused by the battery there will be one on the fuse panel and there id a relay somewhere as well I think.

Graham replied to my thread about my kippered battery, there is a nice pic of his battery hole that shows this quite clearly, but its easy to find.

Could be the power steering relay the grey square topped item in this picture:-



Similar place on all the 'T' cars. An up-rated one (65 amps instead of 45 amps) is available from Renault part No is 8200253922, although you have to remove the relay internals and fit them into the water resistant case.

I had the same prob last year, traced to blown fuse in the battery box. When it blew it cracked the holder as well. Bought a new fuse and spares and a new holder from Steve Heath. https://delta.securesslhost.net/~shenglt/catalog/i...

I have experienced this. I think a new relay is in order however there is temporary fix. Remove the relay and grab a small piece of sand paper. (Needs to be thin to fit inside the relay contact point - I used a nail file - break up the file and remove the sand paper.)

Sand the relay contact back and hey presto the power steering come back. This is a very temporary fix and you will find that it may only last for one or two journeys. Still it will keep you gong whilst you wait for the relay to come in.

Morning all,

This is an eerie coincidence as I fired up the Tam yesterday for a run around and also had no PAS

I checked the fuse (No. 36 on my fuse box and all OK) but looking at my engine bay I don't have anything that looks like the grey plastic relay shown in the earlier picture so no idea what part to look to swap.

Having said all that, it's been pretty wet recently and the floor of my garage seems to be constantly damp so I'm thinking things could have corroded or filled up with water and it might be best to check the battery compartment + famous green / green yellow cable (assuming mine is "standard")

I've had some flat battery problems (temporarily fixed by judicious use of http://www.blackanddecker.co.uk/automotive/product... until I get it to racing green for a new battery) but thought I'd seek the collective wisdom as to whether it's more likely to be relay or fuse in battery compartment?

Hi, On my tam the relay is up near the washer bottle and not as in the pic above. I though it was the washer pump at first.

I checked the relay function and that is fine so it is looking like the fuse.

Thanks Ed, I'll have a nose around.

Admittedly most of my PAS setup looks nothing like the Sag one in the pic but as long as the relay looks the same then I'm sure I'll find it.

Ed, its the 80amp strip fuse. I would buy a new holder as well as the terminals are likely to be corroded. After fitting, wrap the whole thing with insulation tape to stop the damp getting in.

Thanks again Rolex, I ordered the upgraded midi holder and fuse. I may even locate it to a better location while I am at it.
