I can remember reading a post ages ago about diffs around a speed vs rpm in-gear theme, but for the life of me can't find it on the searches.

Could someone tell me an in gear speed vs rpm so i can gauge mine tomorrow?

Other than this, how can you tell what diff you have got? Are there markings on the outer casing or something?

Mines going in for a 4ltr rebuild/upgrade next week and if it was the 3.46 diff, I'd be interested in one of the quicker ones while it's in. Originally being a press car it's a 2003 3.6 factory RR. Is more likely than not to have one of the quicker diffs?

cheers

Smithy.

Hi Smithyl,

Good gear/speeed calculator here;

http://www.gearboxman.co.uk/inforatios.html

As a press car, almost certain to have the 3.73 diff, which gives pretty optimum acceleration vs Mway cruising rpm, hence use in press cars of course. A few of us went for 3.91, which gives marginally better acceleration but with the torquey 4-litre is only worth it if want the last tenths in acceleration for the track.

If you can manage to get your head under the diff you might see a metal tag attached to it with the diff ratio stamped on it.
