Hi guys

If anyone could help...One of my fans is not kicking in when the water temp rises.

After speaking to "track v road" last week they informed me that one should kick in in the low 90’s and one in the higher 90’s. It would appear that the left fan( the one that should kick in at the higher temp) is functioning correctly but the right one (the one that should kick in first) is not working.

I’ve checked that the connections have not come loose and also checked the 2 (30amp) fuses for the 2 fans and they are fine and correctly fitted etc.

The 1 functional fan manages to keep the car under 100 degrees when sat in traffic and obviously when I’m driving this is lower. Does anyone have any ideas what else I should check before I take it over the them to sort for me.

Also what should the max water temp be if both fans are functioning correctly and the car is fully warmed up.

Cheers

Temp should be about 70/74 on motorway and between 80/92 in slow or standing traffic.

Only in the winter. In warmer weather it should be 86-90 on the move, going up to 92-94 in traffic. The first fan cuts in around 93 and the second fan doesnt cut in until high 90s so they would never run using your figures.

If you have established the motors are working - i.e. the fans spin - and you've cross chechked the relays, I'll wager its the water temp sensor toward the back of the block, offside, under the airbox, that's the problem. £10 part and 30 minute DIY job. They corrode as the cable to the sensor is a line for water to get in. Anyway, worth a try, as it sorted the issue for me in the past.

I had the low temp fan coming on but not the high temp one.Traced it to the wiring connector above the fuse box and to the right as you look at it( offside).Simon.

I have had problems with the neptune plug befor now, Pins 3 and 4 are your fans surply could be worth a try if you have checked the ovious first. One half of the plug is fitted to an alloy plate in the bulk head above the accelerator pedal the other half comes down from the fuse box with a lock ring on. If you need a wirring diagram with the details on let me know and i will email it to you. Good luck.

Hi Guys. Just to put this topic to bed for anyone who might encounter a similar issue...
It turned out to be a bit of an intermittent fault (typical) which had to be tracked back to the wiring loom.

She was fixed with a replacement Coolant temp Sensor and a replacement fan switch. Now back in tip top form.

Super job by the boys at Track V Road as always.

Cheers

Fan No 1 not kicking in temps rising quickly fortunately Fan No 2 is working

checked fuses /swapped relays cables etc with no problems but no power to one cable

plugged in laptop and diagnostic says that both fans are working so I am thinking that there is a problem with the wiring any suggestions on how to trace also if it was a problem with the neptune plug as has been suggested how would I (as a complete novice) go about checking / fixing it?

I also assume I will need a trained spider monkey/limbo dancer to gain access to said plug

Any help gratefully received

Are you sure the temp is actually rising enough to trip fan 2?

Temps definitely up I had it set up on the lap top both fans off to begin with temps rising

Laptop then shows fan one as being switched on but nothing happens temps continue to rise Laptop shows both fans switching on and one fan is running

I then switched the cables over and the opposite fan worked then I switched the relays and and no change
