I am just going through the motions of ringing round for an insurance renewal quote. One company is asking for details of the alarm/imobiliser fitted to my 2005 Tamora. I have owned the car since new, and I have not touched the standard factory fitted alarm.

I am being asked if the alarm is a Cat1 Thatcham approved system, I have no idea but assume it is. However they are saying that if I take out the policy I would have to prove that the system is a Cat 1. I am guessing the standard alarm is a Cat1, but wondering how I would prove it? Any advice?

I am wondering if I got some form of certificate from the dealer, will have to look tonight.

TIA

Ian.

You should have got a note from the dealer. I think some have posted a PDF here before that you could print out...

I have a letter with mine saying something along the lines of "All TVRs after 1999 come fitted with a Cat 2 alarm which when combined with the immobiliser give it Cat 1 status"

So as long as yours has the standard alarm & immobiliser fitted then it will be Cat 1. Don't know how you could prove it though. The letter with mine came from TVR Blackpool and was dated about 2002.

Had a similar problem, some insurance companys wont accept photo copies if you ring Meta Alarms in Derby they charge £40-00 to check the Meta system and provide you with a certificate for the insurance company.

Thanks all.

Turns out my existing broker has matched the other quote, so dont need to mess around, but worth knowing for the future.
