No Dash ECU - will it work?

This could be a real stupid qustion.

Will the car work if you take the dash ECU and dials out of the car?

Don't know, but if you don't have power going to your dash ECU, there is a good chance you'll loose mileage data etc and have to get it reprogrammed.

Hi Lee,

I have a problem with my dash so I need to send it to blackpool with the ECU. At the same time I have got buildign work goign on here so will need to move the car around and pushing it is a nightmare, I either need to get the car to work and then remove the ECU there or do it here but be able to move the car around.

I beleive (never tried) that you can run the car without the dash present, its just displaying figures sent to it via the main ECU.

Afterall you can start the car without waiting for the needles to stop doing there dance (but I don`t!) and I doubt the dash's ECU software has finished initialising before the engine fires up..

What probs do you have? I thought I had major problems last week, but it transpired that one of the ribbon cables on the back of the dash had come adrift. 15 mins and a set of allen keys sorted it...

I am sure I read somewhere there is a coin cell back up to prevent loss of data. Might be wrong though.
