Small Puddle In Footwell?

It was raining pretty hard outside this morning and the car was out in it, when it stopped I had a small puddle on my drivers mat...is there a known route for the leak or is it a case of finding it myself? Ta! Dom

Good luck! eight months later and still not stopped them all on my Tam! Just the one that causes the wet carpet behind the passanger seat to fix now but its not easy, several goes at this one but no joy yet. Any ideas from people on this would be appreciated.

Consider the following:

1) Door seals is there two small cut outs where the dimples are (to allow the water to drain away)
2) drain holes blocked in bottom of door (where the bolts are to remove the door cards)
3) rubber sheet inside the door fixed and positioned correctly? (bottom bit sits inside the door)
4) front screen sealed all the way round?
5) Corners of the roof water tight.
6) Rubber bits on the end of the door seals (where they meet the roof edges) not ripped or allowing water to run into the car as they lean inwards?

Some times I wonder if the direction or way I park it on the drive influences if the car leaks or not.

Not a TVR, but my brother's son's Clios water leak in the footwell has been cured by moving leaves/debris blocking a drain pipe opening under the bonnet.

Are any rubber grommits missing under the car, or in the bulkhead??

Very simple one; keep all the rubbers around the door dry of water and lubricated with wax or rubber stuff (silicon?) spray.

Ii looks to me that if you have a small amount of water actually on the rubbers when you close the door when it's raining, it just sort of funnels a whole bloody downpour into the car!

I was sitting in a queue today with my right knee pressed against the door panel when I realised it was soaking; water was pouring in from the rubber seal in the rain. So I opened the door, wiped the seal as dry as I could with a micro-fibre cloth and when I closed the door, no more water ingress.

In my experience to only long term sure fire cure is never leave it out in the rain. And never jet wash it, or at least never direct the hose into seals, joints or gaps that may leak. Sometimes it's inevitable but it's the only guaranteed way imho.

I found water dripping into the footwell by tracking down the bonnet release cable and running along it through the bulkhead, fixed by silicone up the bulkhead hole.

Thanks Simon, that sounds possible - it was a small puddle on the plastic heel rest in the middle of the mat so looked like it'd dripped onto there rather than run down the inside of the door etc - i'll check it out! Cheers, Dom
