No Tamora rebuild - 40k miles?

Hi,

Thinking of buying a 2002 Tamora. However, it's done 40k with no rebuild - apparently inspections when getting the shims done have indicated no wear or impending rebuild. I'm a bit nervous though as dont want to be stung with a rebuild cost soon after buying, so wondering if I should look for one that's been rebuilt.

What are the chances of it not needing a rebuild...how many of this age get to 50k+ miles?

Any advice appreciated.

I've done 48K in my T350, again with the report that there are no signs of bad wear. Wouldn't bother me too much. Seems like some are OK and others are perhaps not. Mine still drives impeccably.

My 2003 T350 did 57k before i decided to go up to a 4.0L, However the rebuild was not prompted by a failure or wear. After my engine was stripped, all the main bearings were fine, followers fine, cams fine, valve guides slightly worn, worn timing chains and 2 exhaust valves starting to burn out.

I had the SP6 engine of my 2002 Tamora rebuilt and upgraded to 4.0L in 2007 out of my own choice, but the cam followers in my original 3.6L SP6 were well worn, and that was after 21,000 miles on the clock. Don't really know what advice to give, but I see it as three choices:

1) By a later Tamora 2005+,
2) By an early Tamora without rebuild and get a rebuild.
3) By an early Tamora with rebuild already done.

My advice is choice 2) and get the rebuild done at Dulfords.

4) Buy an Tamora at the right price, drive it until it goes pop then shop around and act like a schoolboy in a sweetshop looking at all the various rebuild options. Probably get a bit confused too.

They're great cars, all cars go pop sooner or later. Just be prepared and have a fund for it.

It was sounding and looking good the other week mate, I was the guy with the reflex green Tam at Meon Hut. Hope all is well with the expected delivery

My Tuscan rebuilt at Dulfords with special cams goes like the clappers now.

Out of interest, what kind of price is a 'standard' rebuild?
