Tamora owner loses his top!

Hi, driving down the M20 Sat am - the roof of my Tamora flew off! Smashing the drivers side window...

Luckily, it seems, it did not cause any other road users any harm, phew.

Looked for it but could not find it ;(. It must have flown off and landed in the fields somewhere...

Having had the car for a few years and having done 15k+ miles in it, I am sure it was on properly - so cannot fathom how/why it happened....?

Anyone got a spare Tamora roof please let me know - also anyone know how much a replacement one will be and are there any other options worth considering, if any?

Hi Farook, sounds lucky that's all that happened, I know the Tuscan rear windows can pop out art had the same happen on the way to the PH show one year. Good luck with a the hunt for a replacement

Hi Farook, sound's like you had a lucky escape, same thing happened on my old Tam, the domed nut worked loose that secures the strut bar to the body and passenger side rear hood section dropped, just seemed extra draughty at the time, least it's not raining!

Also worth checking the tightness of the nuts that hold the roof mechanism in (just behind the doors), these can work loose and the bolt drops out when going along.

Same thing happened to me on the M1 a while ago. I never found mine either.

My TVR dealership agreed to pay for it.

When the rubber seal along the windsrean becomes unbonded it seems that the roof can pop off when the presure builds underneth it (less so if your windows are down for some reason!)

Mine "popped off" when I was whizzing down the road one day and yes it flew, like a bird! But luckily I saw it fly off - actually it was like slow motion!

Anyway glued the seal back in firmly and the roof has been rock solid ever since - at much higher speeds;-)

Thanks all for the tips - car with str8six to sort out and diagnose problem/reason - shame its going to be off road for a while - but as the cars not going to be used... i m out of town for work for another two weeks - hence delay in replying back.

i was also thinking - if there were other roof material options - is it worth considering carbon fibre? how much extra would it be - would there be any benefit - anyone know who makes/supply them?

Blimey! Off to check my nuts.

There is at least one carbon fibre roof out there. As I understand it the main advantage is it is easier to handle due to the more managable weight.

bugger , iv sold my tam now but i also gave away a extra roof panel with it . the last owner had fitted brackets to both roofs also. so there is a spare panel out there some where .
ps. i think a carbon panel would look gorgeous

cheers bobdylan - ummh, who does/would do carbon fibre roof and how much - a regular new one is £400 + covering + vat - bringing the total upto ~£650, ouch! roof clips - maybe not such a bad idea...;(

hey bobdylan - any chance you would be able to track down the person you sold your Tam to? cos it seems that my options are very limited, and if there is anyway I can get hold of 'know' panel - it would really be great.
