V8 T350

I know I have a Sag but what would you think about a T350 with a v8 in it?

I am having a argument at the moment with some one about purity of TVR's

When my engine eventually goes (hopefully not anytime soon) I'm going to have a very hard choice between Powers 4.3 and a LS2/3 transplant. Purity is only good to me if its the best available, if I can get better going a different route then I will - and more power, 100k service intervals and decent reliability are very appealing - as is the noise of the V8.

While I can see the attraction of an American V8 with long service intervals and oodles of power, I do think it would be a shame to do that to a T-car. The Speed6 is a cracking engine, and there aren't many of these cars to start with.

Could you not just buy a Corvette?

Personally, I don't see a problem in creating a mongrel.

A T car with a LSx engine I think is a good thing. Brummie, (One of the members in our region) has a red cerbera with a LS...3 (I think) and the thing really pulls - by far the quickest TVR I've ever been in.

Some people will say it spoils its TVRness, I say go for it. If the engine ever went pop in the Sag, I wouldn't even consider any other option.

I know what you mean, I love the sound of the straight six but a V8 would be nice. Paul (Brummie) only lives around the corner from me and as you say a beast of a car.

An AJP... I think somebody had done a 4.2 conversion...

An AJP 4.5 V8 fits in a sag so I assume a T350 wouldnt be a prob.

Could always put in a 5L rover v8 , reliable, sounds wonderful , relatively cheap , can be suprisingly quick !

I would say that would make it a mongrel just as much as a LS engine. Plus the LS has more power from stock and more compact.

An AJP would be great though. But isn't the prospect of owning a speed 6 car getting better and better all the time? Why not go for a 4.3?

This thread has just been pointed out to me so sorry for the resurrection.

I am thinking of getting a T350 but before I do I need to know what my engine options are for when it (IF) it goes bang.

Can any of you point me in the direction of someone who can put an LS* engine into a T350 please? Also, does anyone know how much this would cost?

Steve Heath at Steve Heath Engineering is your man. He's trying as we speak. Much as I love the S6 engine, I think the possibility of a reliable crate v8 is hard to pass over. I'm not sure what it would do to your insurance, mind. That's a pretty heavy mod.

Do yourself a big favour and try the 4.3 first.
It's a 5 year warranty from a man who stands by his work and the upgrade was developed with John Ravenscroft.
Later on, if you want more power and torque there is a supercharger being worked on.Could be good for 500 bhp +

Sorry but my money would go on the V8 - however well sorted the speed six is now mud sticks unfortunately.
I think the other consideration is resale - again the speed six is considered a gamble, I very much doubt you'd struggle to sell your car with a proven crate motor.

I don't think resale would come in to it, there are always people that want these cars regardless of the speed 6 issues, it's not often you see a S6 car in the classifieds for more than a couple of months.

I can see the appeal of a V8 T car but for the cost of a LS engine fitted you could get a couple of standard S6 rebuilds with 3 years warranty so there is 6 years trouble free motoring.

It depends on your timeframe.

I think the longer term value of these cars will develop because they are going to be rare as hens teeth and very collectable.I also think that the Six's issue's are better understood and certainly diminishing so it's not as big an issue as it was when the engine was new.
Looking forward, given a choice between a mongrel V8 and a well sorted Six, I would not be so certain that the car with the crate engine would attract the higher price.
