I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation for this (like, something's broken wink ) but can anyone give me some pointers about where to look?

My Tamora judders heavily when braking hard, and less so when driving normally - but only under braking. There's also a bit of a clonking coming from the nearside front when you corner hard.

I've jacked up the front corner and had a quick look but nothing seems to be loose. The disc spins freely.

I'm going to have a better poke around tomorrow, so any suggestions, anyone? Engine mount, maybe? Shock absorber? (I think they're the originals - they're red with green springs - so it'd be the excuse I need to get off my arse and change them for something better).

Anyhow, here's a pic of it with the wheel off, for what it's worth...

Without blowing your pic up or looking at your discs, just your small pic on the thread it looks like you have at least 2 radial CRACKS- if this is true your discs are shagged.
So use this opportunity to upgrade to Sag discs & Mintex pads. The difference is unfookinbelieveable....You're welcome to come try mine if you want to see (FEEL) the difference...

You could also have a sticking brake caliper piston....easily remedied if you want to stick to the std option & a cheap repair...

If it is nothing obvious (such as loose steering rack mountings, track rod end, bushes), I'd check the lower ball joint - you won't be able to tell unless you get a jack under it so it is loaded up as if the wheel were on the ground.

Normally due to warped disks but there £300 a shot +fitting
Clonking could be ARB links, top or bottom balljoints or bushes.
As you can see not easy to diagnose and you could replace parts that are not worn till you find it.
What i can tell you for sure my disks were warped due to lack of use and i replaced mine now ok and i replaced the ARB's and the car is so much smoother now ie no knocking.

They all fk up the near-side engine mounts, roughly annually, due to the heat from the exhausts. But the six is well balanced in that respect, so it won't do anything you can feel through the steering. It certainly isn't likely to 'wobble' free.

What you describe sounds like your brake disks are warped/bent. Annoying, but easy enough to change them. Money for the parts, mostly. Easy, but not cheap, mind. frown

All the Best.

Cheers for the quick replies.

The pic is here: http://rides.webshots.com/photo/280258237010019021...

It doesn't feel like the discs are warped (if you can really warp a disc) - it's much harder. And the car's not been on track, so I'm ruling that out. But bent or otherwise damaged? Maybe.

Think I'd better have a good look tomorrow. I've hardly spent anything on the car in the last couple of years, so it's due something or other. As far as I know, the engine mounts are original.yikes

Thanks for the offer Fly Boy. Do you reckon the discs or the pads make the big difference?

Im sticking my neck out looked at the full size shot and corrosion in the holes and scoring it's the disks.
Don't forget your using hard pads so they will show up slight deviasions on the disks.
Rust is a major cause down to insufficiant use.
All IMHO of course.biggrin
Just to show you where im coming from replaced mine within in a week of buying her notice the scoring and rust round the holes.

Car doesn't look like that now BTW
