Fuel gauge and oils sensor

Hi,

Two questions on my T350 for today that I need a little help with:

Firstly, is everyone else's fuel gauge as wildly inaccurate as mine? Over the weekend, I got the fuel warning of 4L alarm, then 2 miles later it was reading 12L. Dodgy sensor or just random metering?

Secondly, I'm getting a warning, Warning 17, Oil T sensor. The oil temp seems to be measuring ok, running abut 45-50 at speed, and 70-90 when still, so the sensor seems to be fine. any thoughts?

Fuel - Mine is just the same... never trust it, always look to fill at 12 to 15L.

Oil T - your running temps look cool to me. Even on a cold day at speed my temps are usually in the 60s. round town on a warm day, can go to 90. Maybe a sensor issue.

The fuel sender is woeful in these cars. I also get quite a variation from full between the graph and the digital numbers. I usually fill up after about 170 miles and that takes around 40 litres - my guage normally says 5 remaining at this time (so around 10 litres out).

Faulty fuel gauge? I always assumed that my TVR was special, so special in fact that it actually generates fuel as one drives along!

Like you, I've had the warning at 4L and then voila, a magical 12L appear two miles later. Essentially, it's inaccurate. When the warning goes off, fill it and forget it!

What's the smiles per litre everyone is getting for a 3.6 T350? I am getting around 130 - 160 in and around London to a tank thus far...

My gauge is not bad, I can usually know where the actual level is around the nominal fluctuations. As previously mentioned when the buzzer goes I just fill it up, unless I am passing a gas station and I know its pretty low.

Typically I get anywhere from 150 to 180ish depending on how many smiles are required.

Depends how low you dare let it go i was running at 1L the other day so bum was twitching got 200miles on that tank but don't normally let it get that low.
Filled it to brim and pod read 52L

The fuel sensors appear to be less accurate once u get below 16L, hence why most people will fill the car's around that level.

As for the Oil T sensor, if its similar to the water sensor then when a fault occurs it will display the previous value (or zero if the sensor has been faulting since start)

A fault usually means that either the sensor is returning a value outside the required range or the value is incorrect (ie. the ECU might read 80c then read 12c, throwing a fault because you can`t go from 80c to 12c in a 1/10 of a second)

Either way I`d say get it changed as the only real "fault" you should see from time to time is the EFI or Air-Con ones.

45-50 oil temp at speed? Am i missing something? Is this not massively too low?

45-50 oil temp at speed? Am i missing something? Is this not massively too low?

The temps seem about right, that won't be the actual temp, it's just because the sensor is placed in the airflow.

Temperature's seem correct to me for summer time.. A good run on the motorway and my 80c oil will become about 50c - just airflow over the sensor.

An inch-long slice of foam pipe lagging, zip-tied over the sensor, makes it pretty accurate
